  1. Good morning guys and gals. Is this the one, is this the match, is this the performance that elevates us out of the bottom and kick starts our season? Little needs to be said about the polarised views of the team that visits us today.. will leave that for others. There are three new towns, that i can think of, designated as such in the 1960's as required developments from the overspill of London and are now league teams; MK, Crawley and Stevenage. That said the area was inhabited as far back as the 2nd century BC and holds the largest hoard of bronze age gold ever found in the UK. Wolverton, New Bradwell and other villages formed what is todays Milton Keynes including the later settlements of Bletchley, Stoney Stratford, Willen and Walton. With a population within the unitary authority of nearly a quarter of a million it certainly has the sustainability of a football team. There was never much of football history however hence perhaps why it was chosen as the first, effective, franchise club in the country. The population is nevertheless destined to surge to nearly 500,000 by 2026. Football in Milton Keynes, of course, predates the current league club; there were two 'non-league' clubs in the city, Milton Keynes City which changed its names from Bletchley Town in 1974 and was dissolved in 1985. A team called Mercedes Benz became MK City and that team was dissolved in 2003 at the same time the current league club arrived. They played at the National Hockey Stadium for the first 4 years and then moved to Stadium MK in 2007. Not a great deal more to say about this club, in all Carey fairness.. this is their first season in the 2nd tier. Not a lot more to say about the city of MK either except that it has some interesting pieces of architecture in the modern style and is rather famous for its plethora of roundabouts.. don't get lost lads and lasses.. set your sat navs if you are driving. So what of today then? I watched highlights of their match at home to Leeds and while they lost 1-2 I was quite impressed with their smart passing game, dominating for long periods. As Steve Cotts has said; the two teams at AG today like to play proper passing football.. it should be an entertaining game for the purists and easy on the eye.. lets hope so. I can only be the perennial optimist and predict a win. And we surely have to win these types of games if we are to have any chance of building a successful season. I will therefore suggest a 3-1 victory with Kodjia bagging a brace and Wilbs knicking a late third to seal the victory. Oh how we need it so badly. UTC.

  3. And wait for the "Cotterill did a great job last year so however bad it is this year it's OK" brigade to come out in force. Pathetic.

  4. I unfortunately have to completely agree - if that is what it has come down to with a fifth of the season gone, then we have to accept we are rightly relegation favourites now - We can't drop points to teams on runs like MK have come off in the manner we have today and expect anything else. Bottom going into the second international break; just three points from our last six games; worse goal difference in the division - at this point I don't care about how good the performances may have been in spells; we are doing crap, and whether it is new blood into the squad, tactics, whatever; Cotts and the team need to mix it up - immediately. We actually had a better goal difference and only one point fewer ten games into the season that SO'D got sacked, and like that season the only bright light is a striker who clearly is a cut above his colleagues - delighted for Kodjia, who is going some to show how actually putting money on the table and investing in players rather than sitting on our hands should have been the way forward. And for those who'll point at 36 remaining games and saying "108 points still to play for; calm down"; well, MK Dons, Preston and the other teams above us also still have the same amount of points to play for - difference is, they have a head start on us, and seem more capable of getting them, and with every failure to win (forget draws; they are worthless to us where we are now), obtaining more of that rapidly vanishing stockpile of points is a harder and harder task. We've not time to mess about now; until we're a handful of places outside that drop zone, every game is a cup final.

  6. Glad I didn't go today. Even though I got a season ticket....I knew what was gonna happen, and sorry to say it guys....but we will go down this year. I've accepted the fact we ....as a club....Just cannot get it right at this level. Lansdown and the board...have had so many chances to make a real go of Championship football yet they balls it up time and time again. Absolute shambles and a laughing stock

  9. I think we look so unfit. I understand the lack of depth in the squad stretches the players, but we all look spent after an hour, Did they work the players too hard in portugal? With so many Fitness gurus at the club surely this is something we should be getting it right

  10. The one thing that stands out from the usual and 'new' callers into Twentyman Talks Back is that 'we should change to a 4-4-2' . The one thing that is riskier than sticking with a formation that served us so well last season because we have the players who are accustomed to that and have proved very successful is to change it; In my opinion changing to a 4-4-2 is suicidal. The only thing that will pull us out is to stick to what we are doing and, clearly, to strengthen those positions that are obviously letting us down. Many of us have being saying since the end of last season that we need a Championship standard replacement to Wade Elliott.. that, more than a striker, is why we are bottom of the league. Cotts knows it, JP knows it and the team knows it. Why we were unable to get that man in only the club knows but for sure it is not through a want of trying. I would say we have to bring in that man and at least one striker in January or we will be scrapping in the bottom 6 come May.

  11. We were actually lucky to come away with a draw today. Average first half and shocking second half. We were 1-0 up but played like we were 3-0 down - looked like headless chickens playing with no confidence and couldn't string more than a couple of passes together. Kodjia was the only shining light. I may have something positive to say at some point but not at the moment.

  12. Strangely last season quite a few claimed they were a better side than us and this season quite a few claimed they had done great business (unlike us) so who is right????

  15. This side will not be staying up this season. They do not have the players to do so. Or not enough of them.

  16. Understand the thinking behind keeping Wilbraham on/maintaining the starting eleven, but surely now is the time to throw on someone like Burns or Agard to run at them and/or hit them on the break? Really could not stomach a later equalizer again this week... :/

  23. Yes please Yoshi.. you are very kind. Ref 'Champions'; I dropped it in the match before this one. I reserve the right to add it back at a later date though I dropped the word Dons from Milton Keynes though.. the fact the club have handed back the Wimbledon era trophies means that to hold on to that name is a contradiction in terms, in my humble opinion. Enjoy the game.
