  1. Yes I did Fordy although it didn't gain much traction. Anyone who asks awkward questions or pokes fun at some of the absurdities which emanate from the Mem is automatically labeled a City fan and I can only think this is a kind of defence mechanism. Why doesn't it happen on OTIB ? Over the years I've noticed City fans being highly caustic in their comments about your players, managers and directors and yet no one here calls them a "Gashead". Why is that ? I've said before that Wael Al-Qadi appears to be a genuine and sincere man but it doesn't mean he is beyond reproach. The point made above was really aimed at the comment in his interview where, when asked about news of the UWE "file", he said "you will hear it from them" meaning the two people negotiating with the UWE. Now to me that's shirking responsibility, it's not leading from the front and it gives the impression of hinting that "bad news may be on the way but don't blame me if it is". I may be wrong about this, it may be down to a lack of experience or over stressed humility on his part, but surely it's better to confront concerns like this when you come across them rather than look the other way. If others believe that such a comment was a sensible one then let them defend it vigorously but it doesn't help anyone to bury ones head in the sand and simply accuse those who highlight difficult issues of "swinging the other way" as we used to say at the Clifton Lido. Mindful that it's a City forum and this thread is meant to be a bit of fun I'll leave it there as I've got a date with Dot Clarke ( Don has gone fishing with Brian )

  4. Still, if it a genuine statement and they are going to spruce up the Mem, now is a good time to buy shares in Go Outdoors, the tent speculation market has never been more appealing.

  9. All is not lost if the two gentlemen responsible for negotiating with the UWE are forced to admit they have failed us (for it is surely they alone and not the Chairman or President at fault) and the stadium dream is in tatters. We shall simply announce our plan B. You may be signing goalkeepers from Bayern Munich but I understand Rovers could soon be embarking on our very own Bayern Conversion.

  12. They were singing 'we've got our stadium'. 3 days later it became apparent that we weren't going to win the Village Green argument and the club started to focus on 'Plan B'....the redevelopment of Ashton Gate. I'm sure they will get their stadium and it will probably be at UWE but it's been hilarious watching them soil their pants in frustration at every problem they've encountered in the 3 years since that JPT Match. They certainly thought it was going to be a lot easier than it actually has been

  15. As someone speculated a while ago, starting to sound like a property deal gone bad. Odd how the manager who got successive promotions was only offered a new deal when someone else came in for him - probably with a fixed release fee - another chance to generate a bit of cash if Wally doesn't open his Griffin Saver sports bag and get his coins out.

  16. I will laugh my big hairy ass off if this falls through for the gas. The sags were chanting "wheres your new stadium" at the gate last time. Well we have ours completed and you dont even have a carpark. Another point for the best team in bristol!

  23. "The famous blue and white quarters" is one of the biggest myths in football along with " it's more difficult to play against 10 men than 11" "2-0 is a dangerous lead" and "David Beckham was a world class player"

  27. russians do, so do arabs, its to rub their ego, the more you start to dig, the more the threads come undone, Wael is a fall guy for Hamer to get his grubby mits on the mem and the land, you've traded one incompatant chairman with his heart in the right place to another who will asset strip the club, If the car park hasn't started by the end of august be very worried

  29. Patience is important to us. We did all jump for joy when we welcomed our new owner and the honeymoon is coming to an end and reality sets in .. however we do find ourselves with a league one status .. a good manager .. and a good team .. The New stadium will go ahead , when ?? Who knows but as I said patience is what we've learned to aquire . You do have a good stadium that's a fact and ours is what it is .when you follow a club you stand by them through good and bad times .. yes it's frustrating but there ya go .. My thoughts on the season ahead ? We shall end up middish and maybe a few more acquisitions .. I know nothing about your team but understand you've improved from the way you got yourselves out of trouble last season. . I predict 16th ish .. I am one of the realists who support BRFC and yes I do enjoy the odd bit of banter with you guys as I do with my own red mates ..

  30. Crikey, I think you may be right and we now look very very stupid indeed. I thought Chris Morris had been quiet but he's been running this massive comedy project for the last few years and we've all fallen for it. Come on Chris, game over now. But it has been brilliant. My particular highlight was your impersonating the "Rovers fan" on the phone-in programme: "Two divorces, the Thatcher years..". Chris you are a stone cold genius sir.

  31. I would rather have two crappy tent stands because people want to watch Rovers than have open spaces where they stand because we've become a sh** Conference side that manages a 3000 crowd on a good day.The future is looking good for our club, I reckon the new stadium is going to happen, along with the training ground and facilities. Just imagine how brilliant it will feel sitting in the new stadium and comparing it with the Mem.Imagine the bile and spiteful, jealous hatred emanating from the open sewer sh**-house that it Ashton Gate. Can't wait. It will be so sweet

  32. http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/chairmans-message-3152881.aspx PUBLISHED 12:00 24th June 2016 As you will be aware, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union in yesterday's referendum. The ramifications of this decision are going to be significant and will impact, both positively and negatively, on every single industry in the UK, including football! At this stage it is too early to draw any specific conclusions about what it will mean for Clubs such as Bristol Rovers FC and the competitions we enter, other than the withdrawal process is unlikely to be very quick. Once the UK invokes Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, it will begin a two-year process of negotiating to leave, although it could take even longer. We will endeavour to keep all our supporters informed, on a periodic basis, of the consequences for football and an exit from the EU.

  33. Frankly I should have expected the Al-Qadi family to have engaged an experienced PR agency to manage the publicity surrounding their acquisition of Rovers. Instead they set out a rather predictable and cloudy vision involving a new stadium, a training ground, an academy, development of home grown players, links with Jordan, more community involvement etc etc but there was little specific detail. Yet the perception for most fans was that all these things were "in the bag" and in addition we could expect a huge transfer budget a massive improvement in the club's image and finally a serious assault on Bristol City's supremacy. As we stand now absolutely everything depends on how well the team does in the first few months of the season yet it didn't have to be this way. A little careful thought, attention to detail, coaching of existing staff or replacement with better staff, media management and an inspirational leader could have avoided the disappointment which may lie in store. If the UWE Stadium cannot be financed and we need to set our sights lower and if the only cash available for the playing budget has to come from the income we generate and there is no pot of gold to draw from then tell us and we will understand. We are different from Bristol City, we always will be and we don't need to try to copy you. There are ways in which we can gain the competitive edge and attract the thousands of potential local football followers who currently don't support either team and we need to find those ways. We will not do it by making ourselves look ridiculous by boasting about new canopies, new shipping containers or letters on plastic seats. No matter how much fun it gives you lot !
