  1. Yeah this is a bit far. As a player he was so much more than that, and he has been responsible for the improvement of our academy. He’s got a number of strikes in the negative column, but yeah this statement is so wide of the mark.
  2. I suspect that’s not how it’ll work. He was out of contract in the summer, so even if we paid him in lieu that would be up to and including our (new) year end. So assuming there was no additional payout (which unless contracted we wouldn’t have been obliged to do) then it’s no additional cost in the accounts. Similarly, if he had another year after that, even if we’d paid him, you would accrue the cost across the length of the contract. So similarly with Nathan Baker, it’s not a one off cost, but the monthly wage would be recognised accordingly. short answer? It’s not always about the cash.
  3. I’m a big fan of Pride Park, been there a couple times and always enjoyed it, added bonus is we have friends there so make the weekend of it.
  4. Sorry, what? Think these days are long behind us. I can think of a couple that just aren’t in form/are not to the same standard they once were (Father Time finds all of us). But that is a pretty odd call out. So I’m calling BS and would love for you to name and shame because otherwise you’re being a bit of a drama queen…
  5. All hail the emperor Lansdown, bow down or be cut down apparently! So tone deaf, but we were all told before it’s his train set to play with it as he saw fit…
  6. Williams and James should not be playing together. Simple as that.
  7. Williams looked poor vs Oxford, not looking much better today, don’t think he should be starting. Also concerned about Bell being the main/lone striker. Ultimately poor choices from NP.
  8. You know it’s funny, I play skittles with a few gasheads, and when we talk about football (as we did last night) the conversations are actually very measured. They know we are living a different life to them, and they’ve actually accepted that. Would they love to still put one over on us or sneak back into the championship to take a proper pop? Of course. But they also know and are embarrassed about a lot of things (Barton’s behaviour, lack of a stand, etc). What that creates is a really good chat about what players they’re bringing through, what my opinion of Jack Hunt is and how that’ll look for them, and who I think will be the next big thing(s) out of our academy. It reminds me that there’s hope for them, the fan base. But I then come on here and see Hot Air and that hope comes crashing down, some of them simply cannot get over the facts, still obsessed with twisting 82 for their own envious means. Like a tv high school bully that can’t quite get their head around that everybody has the measure of them and in the real world they are completely irrelevant.
  9. Leeds look atrocious defensively
  10. Had this conversation yesterday. With both of them performing well in pre season I have no issue with either of them started because that’s a great replacement to bring on after 60mins. I would have leant more towards Conway starting though.
  11. It should read: We’re doing things on the cheap now lads. I was told categorically this was happening when they were playing the Gas.
  12. Been told on very good authority that the chairman is upsetting people left and right, and this decision was essentially made before the last ball had been kicked. Have to be careful what else I say but it’ll be a case of watch it all come crumbling or he’s gonna be a visionary, but the feeling is the former.
  13. Stability is the name of the game in the Championship, if you’ve got it, you stand to do better. Luton and Coventry are prime examples this - even with Luton losing Jones. There’s some “bigger names” in there next year but all of the following are either a bit of a mess and/or have to do a lot of work on their squads: Saints, Leeds, Leicester, Watford, WBA, Norwich, Cardiff, QPR. That’s a third. Then you’ve got teams like Blackburn and Swansea with questions over the manager staying and the fallout of that. Birmingham may have new investment but who knows. Honestly? Teams like Sunderland, Coventry, Millwall and Hull (and why not ourselves) should be looking at this and thinking hey playoffs is doable here with a few key signings. Sure, at least one of the three relegated teams will get it together as well as a couple more in my list, but I really think there’s cause for looking up and not down.
  14. So Sykes gets banned - and looking at it, ehhh I’ve seen worse but I can understand it. Yet the other week, if memory serves, didn’t Alex Scott get essentially assaulted? And I want to say it was on Sky? Where’s the retro ban there? Once again the lack of consistency is maddening.
  15. I thought he was poor. Called Max Ben Amos at one point, said Weimann was in poor goalscoring form without noting he was injured for a chunk. Few times I thought he just didn’t seem at all interested!
