  1. It was such a weird episode in City’s history. I was overjoyed when he was announced as manager - we had started to stagnate under GJ and it felt like Coppell had the pedigree to take us forward. But the signs were worrying straight away with his absence for the first couple of months, and his body language showed his heart wasn’t in it. There was also the farce of the David James signing, and other signings (Damian Spencer, Nicky Hunt) who weren’t good enough - and in Hunt’s case he out in some of the worst performances I’ve seen in a City shirt. And there is some competition there. Then there was the abject performance in the home defeat v Millwall. Before we knew it Coppell was gone and the decline leading to relegation had started.
  2. A good away point and sounds like a decent performance. Just seen the highlights - excellent finish by Roberts. COYR
  3. Glad to see Dickie back. Tough game today which will be an interesting test. We’ll have to do the basics much better than we did against Huddersfield.
  4. That game was the only time I’ve been there. The win gave me hope that a miracle would happen and we’d beat the drop. It was definitely lively, their fans were not at all happy with the result.
  5. Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles
  6. Rumours of War - Billy Bragg
  7. I’ve often wondered that too. No idea why. It was the only kit of the 1980s not to have the robin badge, and it was first worn in 1983 so a year after our near extinction. There had been at least one kit before then that had the badge so it wasn’t as if it was the first kit under the new company. I was only 8 years old so only have vague memories of City’s early-80s era.
  8. Agree about Port Vale, and it’s a decent size as well. Bloody freezing whenever I’ve been there, though! I’d forgotten about Rotherham’s old ground. Full of character. I might be wrong, but think it’s still there and used by a team.
  9. I haven’t been to an away match for about 4 years now. For me, the important thing has always been the surrounding area having pubs etc. I always enjoyed trips to London grounds (especially Brentford). Newcastle was a brilliant away trip. The worst grounds are ones that seem stuck in the middle of nowhere, like Reading. The ground I was most disappointed with was Villa Park. I like the look of it, but the facilities in the top tier of the away end were abysmal. Plus I got soaked in a downpour of rain after parking the car and then got stuck in terrible traffic on the way home, which didn’t help.
  10. Good for him. I always liked him as a City player and he seemed to be a good character, too.
  11. Based on what I’ve seen of him I’m not convinced, especially for what would presumably be a significant outlay (even just wages). He has seemed lightweight and mainly peripheral in games. Yes he was out for a while injured and might have struggled with match fitness, but he hasn’t made the impact I was hoping for.
  12. I thought the ref was really good today - consistent and managed the game well.
  13. Very glad we rescued a point to maintain our unbeaten run. But it was disappointing to see us revert back to the type of performance we saw post-Southampton, especially in the first half. Huddersfield looked more cohesive and aggressive. I thought our passing was poor. We were better second half and were rewarded for plugging away.
  14. Cops and Robbers - The Hoosiers
  15. Dickie, Max, Knight, Tanner, Vyner. Difficult to not include James. Sykes too, but like other posters have said he’s faded since his injury. Hopefully back to his best next season. Roberts has impressed me, but hasn’t played enough games to be in contention.
