    Book query

I was given it for Christmas a few years back. It's not a bad read, quite funny at times, although a little superficial in its brief summaries of different clubs. More of a browsing book than a meaningful in depth study.
  2. It's the trumpet fanfare from the William Tell Overture which I introduced in 2008 when I was asked to revamp our pre match routine. You're right in saying that Giacomo Rossini had no connections with City, but he did know how to write a rousing tune. I think it still works well as a signal that kick off isn't far away. We tried a few different bits of music over the years but nothing has really stuck. I'd be all in favour of Drink Up Thy Zider or Unfinished Sympathy. Whatever is played, you have to stick with it until it becomes an accepted part of pre match.
  3. Shakespeare was spot on about the OTIB transfer forum in the last days of a window: "O Judgment ! Thou art fled to brutish beasts, and men have lost their reason !"
  4. Absolutely. Far too much opinion stated as fact on this and other threads. I don't have a problem with people having differing opinions, but the disrespect and childish insults being bandied about to suit some people's personal agendas are way below the belt. For years, many on this forum have criticised the Lansdowns for not knowing enough about football (wrongly in my view). 'We need a football man' they cried - with a certain vagueness about exactly what is meant by a football man. Often I got the impression that it meant 'me', or quite possibly 'my mate down the pub who once played Semi-Pro for Mangotsfield'. So now they have appointed a football man. A club legend who has played over 500 games for the club, has extensive experience as a coach and manager and a proven track record of success in developing and nurturing young talent both in the UK and abroad. And now some say 'no, not that football man - we meant somebody else'. And when that football man does the job he was employed to do, along with his employers, and replaces a manager who was well-liked but not exactly pulling up trees, he is suddenly a snake? By all means lets have debate about decisions made. We are never going to agree about everything, and mistakes have been made down the line, and will no doubt be made again in the future. But to suggest that Steve, Jon, Brian et al (and whoever is next in the firing line) don't have the best interests of the club at heart is wrong and disrespectful.
  5. I wish there was a recording of me reading out this team at AG in 2010. My proudest moment in football announcing Uzbekistan U21: Kuvvatov, Khalmukhamedov, Tuhtahujaev, Irmatov, Kholmurodov, Nagaev (Turaev 25), Ibrokhimov, Karimov, Musaev, Valijonov (Khasanov 57), Mamadaliyev (Mukhammadiev 82), Turaev (Shikov 87). Subs Not Used: Khudoyorov, Raupov, Rakhmatullaev.
  6. They did, but I said I wasn't prepared to make those announcements. No disrespect to the RN, but that level of commercialistion has no place in the delivery of basic in- game information IMO. So I handed over the substitution announcements to Tim S.
  7. I don't see it that way Pete. Lurking? For years, many on this forum have been crying out for a 'football man' as DOF, overseeing football operations. That very much seems to be Tins' new role. And if someone with over 500 games for the club, managerial and overseas coaching experience and a proven track record in identifying, coaching and improving young players isnt a football man, then who is? And I would very much expect that 'football man' to be there to ease a new Head Coach ( an excellent appointment IMO) into his new role to provide continuity and a familiar face for the players. Let's see how it works.
  8. Bear in mind the daytime closure of the A370 next week https://www.northsomersettimes.co.uk/news/23862635.a370-west-town-road-close-two-weeks/
  9. You missed Atkinson Street and the Ritchie Brothers who also featured today. The jewellers were originally called Pearson and Fleming, but the name got lost in the final version. I have always tried to use City players' names for minor characters. It's a petty obsession, but it makes me happy. My favourite - going back a good few years now - was a firm of solicitors called Coles, Carey and Hill. I'm gutted that the show has been axed. I've written 82 episodes over 22 years and I'll miss it hugely. But just like my time at City, nothing lasts forever.
  10. Not me. I was PA announcer from 2008 to 2016, sharing duties with @Tim S for much of that time
  11. Yes. We had an overlap for a couple of seasons. Two very fine players
  12. Great player and a thoroughly likeable bloke. I played cricket with him for Stoke Bishop back in the day. He was decent at cricket too ?
