  1. Team for Saturday (and Wednesday)

I know Bobbie has upped his game this season but to expect him to occupy two positions against Manchester is a bit much!
  2. 50 years ago..............

As I have reiterated before I was working at Ashton Gate leading up to his debut. In those days most of the training took place at the ground or across the road in the park. On the Friday before his debut the team were playing five a side on the car park and what a sight to behold. Galley was refereeing running up and down the line in a long overcoat and leg in plaster. I thought what the hell have we done signing this guy. Well what do I know, the rest is history.
  3. Our club shop is poor (Merged)

Back in the 1960s part of one guys job was to receive copies of material requisitions after the item had been supplied to the requestor by the stores. He then deducted the number of supplied items from the totals on a set of cards that matched all the items held in stock. Therefore he was aware of the running stock totals. When this total reached a stock reordering level, based on supply time and average demand, he reordered the stock item. Maybe the current stocking system, which I presume is computer managed, could be replaced by something far more reliable that was used in the 1960s. Can't bring poor old Reg back to sort it out though as he has long passed on. Or is it a case of no one having a clue what is going on.

  10. Offside from a goal kick

Yep, just agreeing with you as when the ball is dropped by the ref it is being returned to the field of play as it is deemed "dead" when he takes it into his possession.
  11. Offside from a goal kick

Plus first touch of a drop ball.
  12. City players at school

Yes remember Big John teaching at Hengrove, nearly fell down the stairs the first time I saw him turn onto the staircase from the corridor. Doc Perry was the "guvnor" when I was there as I was in the same year as Trevor Tainton and p!ayed in the same school team as I have already mentioned in this thread. So we had the two players with most appearances for City in the same school, teacher, albeit training, and pupil, that's until Carey came along.
  13. Biggest let-down?

I think it was 1987 New Year's Day game against the gas. We battered them all game, Timmy Carter the Rover's keeper was off injured for part of the game. Then, couple of minutes from time the ball falls to Gary Smart about 25 yards out and he just hits it and the ball flies into the net. Up there with the BHA play off game for feeling numb after a game.
  14. City players at school

Oh the posh end of the road!
  15. 2 questions for the statos....

I suppose 'Bobby' could be compared to former midfielder Bobby "Shadow" Williams.
