Dolman Stand Access - Important Information

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to give some advance warning of access issues relating to the Dolman stand next season, due to the redevelopment.

  • The staircase at the Wedlock end of the stand is no longer there, so the only way to get into the stand will be at the Atyeo/Dolman corner of the ground.
  • In order to provide adequate exit points to cope with the 4,664 capacity of the Dolman stand, we have had to remove two turnstiles in that corner and replace them with an exit gate.
  • This means there will be just eight turnstiles providing access to the Dolman stand, all of which will be in the Atyeo/Dolman corner.
  • There will be no access to those turnstiles behind the back of the Dolman stand from the Winterstoke Road Car Park.
  • Each turnstile is designed to cope with a maximum of 600 people per hour.
  • So the message to all Dolman stand users is get there early and beat the rush.
  • If your normal pre-match routine involves getting to Ashton Gate in the fifteen minutes before kick off then it is very likely that there will be longer queues and you might not get in before kick off. So get there early to beat the rush.
  • If you are buying a ticket on the day of the game then get there even earlier.
  • We will do everything we can to get everyone into the ground on time, but we need your co-operation, and this will involve a change in the pre-match routine of Dolman stand users.
  • Get there early #beattherush

Maybe it would be an idea to close the doors to the Dolman Bar that people wander into along the back of the stand and instead only allow access to the bar to people that have already been through the turnstiles. This would get a fair chunk of the Dolman crowd in early and perhaps help to alleviate the queues close to kickoff.

Each turnstile can take a maximum of 600 per hour. (Or one every 10 seconds, yeh right!)

8 x 600 = 4800 per hour

Capacity 4664

Basically it will take 58 and a half minutes to get everyone in, if everyone is there waiting and ready to go, and if everything works fine and each turnstile admits one person every 10 seconds.

DaveL, can you confirm what time the turnstiles will open? 1.5hrs before kickoff?

Interesting suggestion, but that would stop fans from the Atyeo and Williams stands from using it before the game.

Problem is people will refuse to change their pre-match routines, will leave the pub at 2:45 and then moan about missing kick-off despite pre-warning from the club!

Exactly i can see the forum after the first home game.

Thats just hope the scanners work, otherwise might be best to get queing now.

Why don't you (the club, not you personally Dave) allow access to the stand directly from The DEH. As it stands people have to leave the DEH and queue to get in the stand, but they could easily go straight into the stand via the door at the end of the corridor where the toilets are.

Might not be the quickest, but would alleviate some of the queues from outside. Would only need a couple of doormen checking ST cards.

Before the introduction of smart cards this used to happen.

This used to be the case back when I had a ST in the Dolman.

Unfortunately the practice was stopped because of people trying to blag their way in without a valid ticket. It's a narrow corridor and there is no space to turn people round or have extra staff to deal with the cheats. Nor is there space to install turnstiles.

Fair enough.

2 less blocks occupied in the Dolman and after Xmas the front seats will go so there will be less people trying to get in, use the loos and get out at the end. Just got to try and get there a bit earlier, suck in the ambience and think about the future and the fantastic stadium we are going to have in a couple of years while we watch Championship football.

They can, but many of them like to meet up with friends in the Dolman bar

Well we all got to go through a bit of pain during the redevelopment..... , look at all the messing about with seating etc so not having a pre-match drink in the DEH for a season surely wont be too much of a burden.

Such a shame a good solution is unworkable as I think anything that can help should be used. Do people still have to show their tickets when entering the Dolman hall, if so can't a simple hand stamp be used to sort out those entitled to sit in the stand to be easily identified from those that aren't. All it would take then is one person to man the corridor and if your hand isn't stamped you don't get through. Simple, or not?

But only if the message is "out there" - match day 1, we all know will be busy. Always been intrigued by how many of our matchday supporters actually read OTIB 10% ???, I'll copy this onto WTMS and Ziderheads.

Was anything like this put in the mailshot that went out with the season tickets? That would have nailed it so everyone was aware

Not sure people should be expected to change a "matchday routine", but that will be down to the individual supporter.

Like the idea muted above about fans being able to exit the DEH into the stand, and assistance to the turnstiles has to be a benefit?

Have to say these are concerning numbers

Each turnstile can take a maximum of 600 per hour. (Or one every 10 seconds, yeh right!)

8 x 600 = 4800 per hour

Capacity 4664

Who gets to the ground at 2pm when their seat is reserved??,

Wow!  It isn't going to work is it?

Although I am sure it doesn't normally take me 10 seconds to get in.

I really hope the club have done some proper testing with the new tickets.

Wouldn't one every 10 seconds mean 360 an hour? so think its more one every 6 seconds. Or my maths could just be off :/  Oh bloody hell, glad I'm in the Atyeo anyway.

2pm is a bit early, but I would recommend 2.30 if you want to be certain of getting in. We will be sending out mailshots etc nearer the time, but i wanted to put a heads up on here so people are aware.
