Terrible substitutions made AGAIN, inviting the opposition team back in the game.

Today at 3-1 we should have put Fleetwood to bed.

Instead we took off our pace/attacking outlets and tried to cling on, yet still playing the same tactics eg the balls into the channels for the likes of Agard, Bryan Freeman to chase who were at this point sat on the bench.

At 3-1 the game was crying out for JET, a player who can hold the ball up, run the channels, produce goals from nothing. His very being on the pitch means defenders doubling up on him which of course creates gaps to exploit.

We are still unbeaten and today we played a decent team.

We lost 2 points today, not down to any single player, but by inept tactics and substitutions, that's the fault of the manager and a reoccurring one at that.

The sad thing is I'd of taken a point today at 3pm.

.........oh yes I do know we are still top and unbeaten in the league, doesn't mean that there's not lessons to be learned.

Well said wolfy, lets hope cotts learns from this should have been 3 points but lets be positive, we would have defo lost this game last season.

He keeps doing though mate.

This isn't beyond the realms of reason but we could have won every league game if it were not for inviting pressure when the game is ours for the taking.

I know this is harsh but I want City to win this league or at least go up, lets not make it hard for ourselves.

I'd also sack Cottrell if we get promoted, as he's not capable of pushing on in the championship.

If BCFC and Bristol Sport wants to be taken seriously then no less than Arsene Wenger should be appointed.....................

.................ok I went a bit far there.

No, were unbeaten, top of the league and I'm happy.

Today felt like a loss, simply because we were out thought and our substitutions invited pressure.

Some people......

Don't see how jet helps us at all anymore...he is for me now only ever going to be an impact sub if we are losing or drawing and cotts needs something different....he is now a luxury that we could probably do without and not notice anymore...I'm sure cotts thinks the same and he is now just waiting for his next move....jet is finished with bcfc imo

What if we get a few injuries?

Ps I agree, I think SC doesn't want him and its glaringly obvious.

I tend to get this feeling aswell. Having said that it would only take an injury and JET could find himself right back in the frame with a point to prove.. Its a long old season and we will need the vast majority of the squad to play there part.

Yeah of course a few injuries and he gets a chance, but he stood out in a poor side under o'driscoll last year, his form deteriorated under cotts....I would like us to get rid at earliest opportunity he is just a luxury and has found his level....McCarthy could not wait to get rid of him at Ipswich and he is a good manager....

Think a few tricks blinds some of our fans, but for me he simply doesn't fit into modern football especially at this level

You can be

1. Happy with Cotterill

2. Happy we are unbeaten at the top of the league

3. Frustrated at today's substitutions which invited pressure and indirectly caused them to score

4. Disappointed we threw away a 2 goal lead against a side we could and should have beaten.

It's more likely people who didn't see the game will be less disappointed and be happy at the result and league placing like I would be but those who saw the game would have seen the impact and how we threw away the initiative.

That's my view anyway.

If you'd have gone you'd be feeling the same as me and the 884 others.

For a while maybe, but having realised that in the main results went our way and we had increased our lead over our nearest rival by a point at the end of the day i'd then be happy.

Anyway what would you be saying had he gone for it at 3-1 up and we had lost and not even gained a point.

Glad you think the same way fella... I brought this up in the match day thread.

Great we are doing well...but I do feel it was a mistake by Cotts.

It's constructive criticism...some people don't understand that...we all want what's best for the Club...not just to settle.

We need to keep improving and learning.

Inviting teams to attack invites problems.

If we as a team continue to create problems it negates that.

Cotts isn't perfect...Lets hope he thinks twice next time.

Burns imho would have caused no end of problems down the channels after Agard got booked.

Good post.

All my mates were dejected, but were still unbeaten and I'd have taken a point at 3pm. It's the manor in which we conceded that annoyed me, the players IMHO were no to blame the system was.

Well me and the lad are still in our way back and neither share your view / opinion.

We should have been good enough to close it out but weren't and they scored class goals (Proctor's header was a cracker.)

JET wouldn't have stabilised the centre - who'd you have brought him on for. Smith and Wilbrahimoich tired badly late on and most went off the boil last 25 minutes. They took all their chances, had we done likewise we'd have won 7-3.

Hallelujah a man who understands the game.

For this club to get bigger and push on we have to strive for perfection.

Some of the players we've brought in are exceptional, if we go up we must strengthen still and it looks like the scouting network is really earning their coin.

Wasn't impressed at all with Agard on Tuesday, his touch was diabolical.

Today he missed two one on ones but he worked his socks off and popped up when and where it mattered.

Or we could have caused problems and won 3-1 or 3-2.

It's all about learning from mistakes and not doing them again. As Wolfy said...it's not the first time.

Do you think inviting players to attack is a better way to defend a lead, than doing what already got you that 2 goal cushion in the first place?

Why change a tactic that was working?

We had the fresh legs and quality on the bench.

With 10 mins to go we should have been wasting time down in the corners... using the channels and holding the ball in their half. Not inviting them at us.

Cotta is still learning and finding out what's best for the team. He'll now know what to do in that situation again.

No he won't, he will do what all managers even what the Jose Mourinho's of this world would do, make a decision based on what he believes is best and sometimes it works and everybody is happy and sometimes it dosen't and some people aren't happy and that even happens to Jose and sometimes players make a mistake which I understand occurred for their equaliser and that has nothing to do with tactics or substitutions.

To be fair, I think SC stuck with what has worked previously. Very late subs and 'last minute' energy. But the 2 goals we conceded were very scrappy and avoidable. But it happens and we didn't lose, so hey ho....

Saw a game the other week whereby the manager should have shawn up the defence with 1/4 of an hour to go at 2-0 up, went for the third, and ended up drawing 2-2.

Did you all think the same at 3-1?

It is a common tactic for managers to look to close games up at 3-1, surely?
