Korey Smith Nasty Bit Of Work

Yesterday I noticed that when we got the free kick near the end (that we messed up) Korey was in and behind the wall and while behind the wall he ran his studs down the back of a Fleetwood players calf an action that would have got him sent off with a 3 match ban if the referee had seen it.

This is something that I do not approve of and I hope that SC does not approve either and will have a word.

Maybe looking for a reaction to get a penalty ?? Either way it couldn't have been bad or fleetwood would have been moaning about it by now.

No reason to doubt you, although your opinion has been cast aside because he "seems an honest player". Not good to hear if true, either.

I haven't heard this anywhere else but, if it's true, then good! We've could do with a nasty streak and have been too soft for years!

Personally, I couldn't give two hoots about any other club, just Bristol's only league club.

Korey Smith is class, end of, if he's a nasty b***ard, then I'm quite happy. Gerry Gow was one and we've been missing that since god knows when.

I would have called Gerry Gow a hard man a genuine player, in an era when football was football,( much less niggly than todays sly cheating game (despite its modern finesse, fitness & skill levels) it was harder but in general it was much more honest too, ) I'd never think of Gow as a nasty piece of work he wouldn't have become the City hero that he did if he was. But if he tackled you, you bloody well stayed tackled! :)

I don't know mate, too many 'nice guys' like Skusey and Pearson in our midfield hardly propelled us into the Premier League.

Graeme Souness was today asked one of the most loaded questions possible about his views on 'aggression' in football. He predictably responded to say that teams don't win without it and the undercurrent to my perception was that he was almost condoning dirtiness. Peter Reid and Andy Gray have both certainly admitted to being dirty bastards.

Our general attitude towards fair play is laughed about in most other football cultures in the world. Louis Suarez was celebrated in Uruguay as a hero for biting a player and being sent off!

Can't condone being dirty but if you're not, at times, you will be left behind. Cycling all got a bit out of hand, admittedly.

Don't be caught is the golden rule, though ;)

Can't imagine Cotterill will be nominated for any nobel peace prizes any time soon either but we are top of the league.

so you think gow never tried to hurt anyone?

Gerry could and would leave his foot in with the best of them.

agree about today's sly cheating w...ers. if Gerry, hunter, smith, harris and the like were playing today they would

spend more time on the side lines than playing!!

watching premier league football it seems every foul is a booking. won't be long before it's a non contact sport!!

Gow, Hunter, Kellard etc were and still are some of my favourite all time City, Joe Jordan & Terry Cooper stood for no nonsense too.... Today's Prem ***** (sorry 'stars') most of em wouldn't have dared take the piss out of that lot or at least wouldn't for a second time! .... Its the sneaky shit I can't stand, the old guard didn't **** about, and provided some of the best footballing memories in living memory... The twinkle toes skill often seen nowadays (brilliant as much of it is) is a World away from blood guts and thunder era many of us were privileged to have grown up with, and there was always room for the George Best's etc.. Gerry Sharpe was one of my first skill player heroes, til that fateful day against the Boro that ended it for him... Football then may have been generally 'dirtier' but that was the game then, today's sanitised version is a totally different animal and the snidey side of it was thge exception rather than the norm in Gows day - it was more honest then hard & often unfair but more upfront and honest, f'ing Suarez sneaky bite etc would've resulted in a well deserved broken nose, likewise a cowardly shin / calf raking wouldn't have been taken lightly..

Guess I'm saying there's hard 'dirty' and there's cheating sneaky 'dirty' .... Worlds apart and Gow wasn't in the second category....

Its a different game today, I preferred the older version , remember Terry Butcher blood soaked England shirt, raw & honest.. Loved it, miss it.

Well, Like Cloughie said, if you start fining the player as well as the manager for dirty, play cheating and harassing the ref, it would all be cut out quite quickly.

Bit of nastiness is okay, until you are the one on the end of it and your career is ended.

Nowt wrong with a hard challenge where you win the ball, everything else, just a bit wrong imo.  I used to Love watching Dave Martin smack people all around the park, such a limited player who bought others down to his level, but really, is there any need for it?

Let you football do the talking, not hatchet men.

The lack of nastiness has been a problem for years to the gate, it's a nasty thing to do but so what, get on with it!

Agreed, I think the last "Dirty" player would have been someone like Gerard Lavin or Martin Khul maybe. anyone else spring to mind since guys?

Was just about to post something similar to this. Its about time we stopped being so Cole Skuse in midfield (nice) and a bit more Tommy Doherty (battling), Smith is an honest hard working player, if he gives a bit of stick and battles with the other players so be it. As long as he doesn't injure anyone badly on purpose which im sure he wont. Mountain and Molehill spring to mind.

"Gow wasn't dirty!"

I remember the Man U game where his challenge broke Jimmy Nicholl's leg and he then got sent off for fighting with Sammy McIlroy...

OK, yeah, maybe a little bit.. Gow Dirty'ish' then..:)

(but it was an era of football 'hard men' ... go compare with today's lying cheating fake headbutts, powderpuff sack of spuds diving etc etc. Thankfully not so prevalent outside of the premiership in this country but its here and needs sorting before it filters down though the lower leagues too....

Ffs if its allowed to continue like it is on the field its only a matter of time before the supporters respond & we'll be seeing fans fighting with horses.)
