Running Away With It?

The gap at the top looks fantastic, and even better, the gap between us and third place.

Are we going to steamroll this division and cross the finish line with weeks (dare I say months) to spare?

I know it's early days, but it feels damn good to revel in our glory!

Our position at the moment is flattering, because we have not really dominated many games, just got through by a whisker.

Today was a good example. It was such a seesaw game, it's difficult to say which was the better team.

Sometime our luck will turn and we will

lose a few. We're not a cut above the other teams in the league.

On paper we have the best team in this league by a mile, we're playing poorly and still winning.. What does this tell us you plonker...?

I thought we were very poor today, if i was watching the game and had no knowledge of the standing I'd have said we looked like a mid table team and chesterfield looked a better one, having said that us still winning the game says a lot

Ive seen us only 2 times this season (Cheltenham was the other game) and im far from convinced yet and going to carry on with the prediction i made pre season that we will finish 7th

Did I dream City hit the woodwork twice today?

Well I brought along my mate from uni who's a Villa fan, and he said we edged it and played some good football.

It wasn't our best performance this season but Chesterfield are a good team some credit has to go to them. I think we've been spoiled a bit, we're not going to dominate every game like we did against S****horpe, Doncaster, Port Vale. There are quite a few good teams this season and we won't have it all our own way all the time.

like i said only my second game and while we were very good against Cheltenham, they are a division below and we were expected to be clear winners, chesterfield today easily matched us imo although that may be partly aided by the fact the referee didnt want to award us anything. But I'll be at the Ricoh next week and hopefully I'll see another 3 goals but more importantly another 3 points

Correct. Joe Bryan with a right foot curler in first half and Luke Freeman with a piledriver in the second.

I spoke to a couple of Chesterfield fans en route to Temple Meads who both said we are a very good team. They also thought their own team were OK but not at their best.

A agree with Cotterill that results like today are indications of a promotion side.

Of course it's relevant - we hit the woodwork twice today and that clearly isn't the good luck you seem convinced we are constantly benefitting from.

No, I don't think we'll win the league by 20 points, but no idea how that's relevant to what I said.

We're actually top of the league by a healthy margin and it's up to other teams to knock us off our perch.

Time will tell whether any of them are consistently good enough to do so - we'll no doubt have our poor results at some stage but I certainly don't envisage City imploding.

I'm sure there was a third time too, between the two you mention? Unless it was a point blank save from the keeper. From the Atyeo it looked like it was off the woodwork but can't remember who it was.

Just to expand on 29AR's point, how many times have we been marginally beaten by top of the league/promotion chasing teams after giving them a good game, over the years? It's a rhetoric question but it seems the teams at the top are the ones who do squeak the three points or knick a draw when they debatably shouldn't have.

I think it's a good omen and long may it continue.

Perhaps one of our resident stattos can tell us when it was that Tranmere were top of this  division (season before last?) and look where they are today. I don't think the cliche of taking one game at time could ever be more apt. Lets concentrate on the marathon not the early front running.

This. I said the same thing to my old man on the way home from the match-the amount of times I've seen City give a team at the top of the table (in the past) a run for their money only to lose to a last minute goal makes a change to see us do it, and long may it continue. We were not at our best but we took all three points. Hallmark of a good side.

We haven't dominated games, however we have dominated periods of games.

Chesterfield are a good team on a roll who are up there and will improve, as will we. Yes its inevitable that we will have some games and decisions go against us and to be frank there was a standing ovation at one point today for the ref who finally got a decision right. The point being it never effected the players and we still went forward and earned our winner simply by refusing to settle.

I suppose when you consider we have scored 3 in 5 of our last six it means the opposition need four to win. Me I'll take the excitement and attacking play without a murmur as we both know we will win more than we will lose!

I wonder how Coventry are feeling about us coming next week....2000 supporters, free scoring team that are playing the side that lost to bottom of the table....Potential banana skin of course, potential three points definitely!

I don't think it is possible in modern football to dominate games for 90+ minutes, and to a certain extent if that was what was happening I think everyone would start saying this was a poor league.
