mrevans
I found this article and wondered what would be number one and if/where we'd feature. Although a somewhat patronising article in places (I'll leave that to you to decide where), still interesting. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/picturegalleries/11197636/The-20-fiercest-rivalries-in-English-football-by-Jonathan-Liew.html
Rocky
Probably about right? We don't play each other often enough due to the GAP.

CodeRed
The 20 fiercest rival in English football.....and the number one listed is two WELSH teams !!
One BCFC
I would have said Millwall vs West Ham was the fiercest. What about Preston vs Blackpool that is as fierce as most on that list.
Lew-T
I'm surprised the Scouse derby is so low..

Aizoon
That's ten minutes of my life I won't get back. Probably the bitterest rivalry isn't even local - Leeds and Millwall.
PolskRed
Nothing comes close to United and Liverpool. Agreed, those trains back to London and the South can be frightening places after one of those games...
Robin1988
Sunderland - Newcastle should be number one for my money.
Tall King Blox
City v Cardiff City v Millwall City v Chelsea City v Leeds All pretty hairy cos they dont use tunnels
The Casual Connoisseur
Our Derby was number one in one of those "lads" mags a while back. Cardiff v Swansea is tame, the sc have gone their own way and both clubs are somewhat plastic. The worst rivalry I've been to is Ajax v Feyenoord, the only ne in this country close would be Man Utd V Leeds which doesn't even get a mention. Rubbish journalism as pointed out by many already. The Casual Connoisseur
City v Cardiff City v Millwall City v Chelsea City v Leeds All pretty hairy cos they dont use tunnels As you know, most Millwall consider us a rival along with the obvious West Ham, Leeds, Cardiff, wonder why?!!!! Aizoon
City v Cardiff City v Millwall City v Chelsea City v Leeds All pretty hairy cos they dont use tunnels Don't we use a tunnel to get to Cardiff?

22A
"For a city that doesn't really like football enough to support two teams, this one gets surprisingly heated. Though Rovers are in the Conference now, they still play each other occasionally, matches that almost invariably end in a pitch invasion, a line of police horses across the pitch and dawn raids the following morning". Meanwhile not too many London games featured. No mention of Brentford v QPR (a lot of hatred amongst older fans), Spurs v Chelsea (frequent battles on &off the pitch in the 60s - 80s), Millwall - Charlton (local derby with class distinction of the fans) Plymouth - Torquay didn't feature as it's too far away from London based journos
Peter O Hanraha-hanrahan
I'm surprised the Scouse derby is so low.. It's not very 'fierce' though surely?
Bris Red
Thought that was a reasonable position for the Bristol derby to be fair.. If both club's were in the Championship/Premierl league it has/had the potential to be the biggest derby in the country IMO.
cityexile
Nothing comes close to United and Liverpool. Have to say, for that not to get in the top twenty kind of discredits it.

Shedman
Rangers vs Celtic..... I know it's the English Derby's reported here but I have never witnessed more vitriol than this fixture. Lack of Action Man
Rovers vs horses? In all seriousness, what is a measure of ferocity? Is it the standard at which the matches are played? What's at stake? History? Club firms? Everyone would have a different opinion based on how you define the ferocity of a football rivalry.
