Loan Players In

Been at work all day so only just caught up with this, I must say I'm very surprised we are prepared to let 2 of last week's subs go out on loan from a squad that only had 22 in it (one of whom is suspended and at least one injured) in the first place.

I see we are being strongly linked with the Leeds striker Matt Smith, but unless Karleigh Osborne is 100% fit or someone else arrives by tomorrow we now look very light on numbers to me.

24 hour recall? And getting regular football... frees up wages. Osbourne, Wynter ( most likely back ) Plus we may have two loan signings coming in.

If that's the case...looks ok to me.

You can't recall an outfield player in the first month of their loan.

Reid and El-Abd are gone now until the Yeovil game at the earliest, Wynter hasn't featured at all under Cotterill bar a very short JPT appearance.

"We may have two loan signings in" is exactly my point, one training ground injury and we can't fill a bench at present.

Are we sure Osborne is fit?

I wouldn't of got rid of Reid and El Abd considering Pack (gulp) is the only competition for Elliots place, we are light at the back in terms of numbers..

I just hope SC knows what he's doing.

He knows more by himself than the collective wisdom of OTIB's finest put together, but that still doesn't guarentee he knows what he's doing.

Yep it looks like Matt Smith is joining us from Fulham - is he really 6 ft 6" ??

How can you be so sure?

Malago has the crystal ball, a map of the world, the full whatsisface stats on City and all of Cotts' previous jobs, he likes buying British built automobiles, a telepathetic memory on all posts and all threads going back to the month before the Messiah's arrival and, well, cos he's a big bruiser and I would not wanna meet him in a dark alley after a loss... not that they happen much these days. ;) . So Malago is right and he is always right.

If Osborne can prove his fitness then we have a more than accomplished centre back as cover now that El Abd has moved to Bury until the end of January.

A little bit strange letting Reid go with Elliott in the middle of his ban but if Bobby is going to get games at Argyle, which he will, then it makes sense. Plus, Wade only misses one more league game and the Telford match should be used to blood players like Pack, Wynter, Morrell et al.

Matt Smith will be a good signing for us. He's an aerial threat, strong, holds up the ball well and is fairly quick for a big man. Not exactly a goal scorer but a good understudy to Wilbraham who does need a rest. He did well at Oldham, excelling in big games, and at Leeds he played a major part in McCormack's success; just hasn't hit the ground running at Fulham.

If he reigns in his discipline, we could have a tidy acquisition.

Calculated gamble I'd say.

If we get a defensive injury/suspension in the next month, that's bad luck. If we get one and Osborne isn't fit, that's double bad luck, but there are other emergency options (Cunningham in a back 3, youth players, change of formation) that would cover that eventuality that is by no means likely.

Then, if we need a replacement defender after Xmas, we should hopefully have a fully match-fit and happier El Abd to call upon. He needs games and ideally he needs games somewhere else where he can rediscover his form. He's not been bad this season by any stretch, but it won't do him any harm at all to get some competitive games in.

I'd say it's worth taking the chance personally.

So am I right in thinking that this leaves us with 20 first team players, one of whom is suspended for tomorrow night?

Fielding, Little, Ayling, Williams, Flint, Burns, Smith K, Elliott, Freeman, Agard, Wilbraham

Richards, Kane, Osborne, Cunningham, Pack, Wynter, Wagstaff, Emmanuel Thomas, Smith M

Anyone I've forgotten?

Is that enough going into the Christmas period, and still involved in two cups?
