No. The web site seems to cover all sport involving Bristol ie Lee Haskins (boxing) is on there too but he ain't funded by BS to my knowledge.

That said, I have heard rumours that Glos joining BS could be on the cards. It would actually be one of the more obvious considering we know SL likes his cricket - difficult for wealthy investors to have outright control of cricket clubs in this country tho...

Difficult one as Glos aren't really Bristol, only based here.

Can't imagine the members from outside of Bristol ever letting this happen

The name Bristol will never be used like Birmingham Bears - this is one sport BS can't get their hands on

Steve Lansdown was asked about it in an interview the other day. He said that Bristol Sport were assisting with marketing at GCCC and there is a relationship, but he hasn't put money in and doesn't plan to. I suppose Bristol Sport can help promote any sport across the city, with one minor exception.

Sorry but I don't buy that at all. Glos have been based in Bristol for years. Are you telling me that at the promise of major investment Glos fans would not want to be a part of BS? There wouldn't necessarily have to be a name change.

It is the Members system in cricket club ownership that is preventing SL from a takeover though.

..and may also be that a lot of City & Bris fans are Somerset fans..

As a life member of GCCC I would be delighted to see Bristol Sport take an interest.

Would you? I'm undecided. On the one hand they clearly need the money and SL could provide the investment they need to compete. On the other, SL has brought only limited success to City in 10 years and I'm not sure I'd want all my sporting eggs in one basket, even if it is a very nice, expensive basket.

I'm not a member, though, I just follow from a distance. Perhaps it's easier for me to want the county to stand on its own feet when I don't have to watch it struggle.

I was on the Bristol Sport website earlier today and noticed an article about international cricket fixtures at the county ground over the coming years. It got me thinking, what are the chances of Lansdown adding Gloucestershire CCC to his Bristol Sport portfolio?

Does he have an interest in cricket? Is there too much of a divide in bristol with allegiances split between Glos and Somerset for him to bother? Are the current owners committed and unlikely to want to sell?

What do people think?

He was asked about Glos CCC recently in an interview. I think he said no direct financial involvement but helping out with PR/advertising.

Anyone else have more or correct info?

Thanks, which answers another question which was why there were glos CCC articles on Bristol sport website. That must be part of the pr/advertising link.

as a cricket fan, i watch both glos and somerset , because of work   i watch whoever is at home, with bracewell going now could be time to  get on board,  whilst im pleased international cricket is coming to the region, glos has the smallest playing budget in county cricket ,relying on up and coming kids and an old timer like geraiant williams  and usually finishing in the bottom reaches of divsion two .

a huge investment can only be a good thing, and wouldnt need to spend as much as you would at a football club !

I'm red as they make them and I've always supported Bristol and Glos. Given the former location I'd say a lot of Bristol fans are Glos too.

I'd be really pleased to see Glos join up with BS. If you support another rugby or cricket side so be it. I'll bet there are a few closet horse punchers in the Bristol fraternity.

I think he also said he wouldn't rule it out in the future though. Apparently SL loves his cricket.

Lansdown does ilke his cricket. I know he used to turn out for Bishopston CC until 2008 (his stats) and donated a five-figure fee for a new scoreboard at their ground in recent years, according to someone on the B&D committee.

As a Gloucs fan I would be massively in favour of SL bringing the club into Bristol Sport, and several members I know are also in favour. It's a no brainer and I'd be amazed if Gloucs' top brass hadn't sounded SL about this already.

And, of course, the GCCC flag is not the coat of arms of Gloucestershire, but of Bristol.

At GCCC cup finals, you used to see BCFC, BRFC (not yet NL), Cheltenham and FGR shirts.

I don't know any NLBRFC and Somerset supporters - does anybody?

As a Gloucestershire CCC fan I wouldn't want Somerset involved in Bristol Sport.

But, it's got nothing to do with me as I've not put any money or time into it.

It isn't, so the point is a non- sequitur. However it has been suggested that BS might have some sort of tie-up with GCCC and it would be worth that organisation bearing in mind that Ashton Gate is situated on the Somerset side of the Avon, and City have lots of fans in Somerset and rather less in Gloucestershire.

This may or may not be true but it doesn't change the fact that it has nothing to do with the views of some City fans.  The man can do what he wants with his money.

People need to get their heads around the fact that Bristol Sport is not an extension of Bristol City, it is a venture set up by our very rich owner because he is, in his own words, a sport fan.  He loves cricket, football and one suspects increasingly likes Rugby and sees the potential in Bristol Rugby to compete at the highest level possible.  I suspect that he couldn't give a toss about slightly annoying some BCFC fans by using his own money to back Glos CCC. He is a cricket man and would obviously want to do his best to improve cricket in his city.

As for the old boundary between Somerset and Gloucestershire, when was that last actually a real boundary rather than an historic memory?  (this is a serious question - I don't know the answer).

Dunno. But I know that my mum played for Somerset ladies cricket team (in her youth) because she lived in Ashton and went to school in Bedminster. Her friend who went to school in St George did not qualify.

I seem to remember that Bristol's been self-governing since 1373, but obviously the old county boundary has some meaning when it comes to sport, etc...
