New South Stand - Behind Schedule?

Progress with the erection of the steelwork appears to have ground to a halt this past 3 weeks - has anyone else noticed that.? Collecting my tickets for Crewe yesterday I took a look to confirm.

With the construction industry starting its two week Christmas break as of today nothing is going to happen until week commencing 5th January. I know these structures can go up quite quickly but does it seem feasible in having a fully fitted out stand done and dusted with appropriate safety certificates within 28 weeks because that is how long they have got!

At the last couple of home games there were comments from those in the know ranging from the steel order wasn't placed (there is a shortage any way I believe) to the wrong type of steel was being used (structural engineering issue) and what was up was going to have to come down!!! What I do believe is that City chose the cheaper contractor rather than one who had a more proven track record with this type of project.

Can anyone enlighten me or share my concerns - I look at the web cam with expectation every day.

Main beneficiary of this delay is Shedman - he'll be offering corporate hospitality next; perhaps he already is for the sell out Yeovil game?!!!

I was told that they were behind due to the fact that they were waiting on an integral part of the steelwork but the time would be caught up as other prep work on the Dolman Stand had started ahead of planned January date. Also if you look at the webcam the crane is working on the Dolman corner as well now. I was also told that they had to complete both corners first then work inwards.

I don't think the club or Barr were the ones at fault rather than the steel fabricators were the ones who didn't get it right first time.

Fair enough.

Popped down the Gate earlier and they're making really good progress now. Part of the rake of the stand is in next to Williams, first floor flooring is in and also the roof structure is coming along nicely.

People will notice the progress on Boxing Day.

May have been touched on previously but in the artists drawings of the stands, the dugout looks terrible. Is that what it will be like? A big hollow concrete section where the two bus shelters are relatively close to each other? I thought they may have produced something that has a little more quality as it probably wouldn't have stretched th budget much further.

I would have hoped for something similar to what they have at Manchester United as it think that's a nice touch to have the bench in the stands. I hate those bus shelter type dugouts.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I apologise if this has already been discussed but I have not seen it anywhere

They have hit a problem with ground water because the footings are below water table

They now need to over pump water this is why they are behind

I aint having that surely all the steelwork sit on the piles which in turn any footing for walls etc would be tied to the pile/pad founds at probably same level which is usually ground level

if that's flooded then the pitch aint much higher so that would be liable to flooding too

sounds like a cock up somewhwere if true though

No soil drainage where the East End stood BUT lots of drainage channels under the pitch. Don't worry about the playing area.

Where they have to put in piles they need to use large machines and this is making it hard work

There is an storage tank fitted but no out let into stream yet because this will have to go pass the Williams stand

They will be over pumping into the sewer when approved thought trade waste this will help with the excess water

All the piling was finished by end of October and one assumes that the concrete bases, if that is the correct expression, were filled in at that time. So where did you find out about "flooding"? I suggest it is just surface water or in channels cut for incoming water/electrics or outgoing sewage. The project is a bit behind because some steelwork was either ordered incorrectly or cut incorrectly?

the concrete went in and takes about 21 days to cure, which has already happened,

If there were problems you'd see much more activity on site as the shit would of hit the fan,
