We Will Not Win Every Game!

Why is it as soon as we lose a game everyone starts to think its the end of the world and we are not getting promotion etc....

We are Bristol City

we will not win every game we will probably drop below top spot at some point maybe even into play  off places but if we all stick together back the manger and the players we can go up

Any fan offerd the position we are in at the start of the season would have taken it

On to the next game

Really don't want to be negative, and yes we would all have bitten your hand off at the start of the season to be top at Christmas.

BUT, I think you can only ever judge a team on current form, and at the moment ours is a bit worrying.

Hopefully the right additions will be made in January as I think the weaknesses in our squad are starting to show.

Exactly!

At the moment it's looking like the top 4 unless Sheffield Utd put a good run together and also beat the top 4 when they play them!

(Hopefully not us I may add)

After having that gap a while back I thought a top 2 was nailed on, but now I'm not so sure. If the talk about Swindon is true then they may have to sell their better players to balance the books, so that may put the mockers on their chances. The Mkdongs are the real threat at the moment, while Preston have kept up the pressure as well!

The goals going in issue has been sorted to a degree, but now we're starting to struggle at the other end. SC I feel will bring in another striker to help out with this.

All in all with 2 from the top 4 it's going to be a bumpy ride, but I'm confident we'll finish 1st or 2nd and even if we do just miss out we have enough quality, drive and passion to win the prayoffs!

The current form is worrying? Only won four out of the last five. I can't sleep at night for all of the worrying.

Beat me to it, Dave!

This is the kind of form that I worry about! Obvious to one and all that we could do with a few more goals at the moment, and two red cards in the last half a dozen games isn't great, but think where we were 12 months ago. That was worrying, this is fun

Any examples of this or was it just a pre-prepared rant waiting until we had a (very) slight dip in form?

I've seen no evidence whatsoever that anybody is over-reacting apart from the OP stating it as fact at the beginning

Really? I thought it was all over OTIB, but maybe that's another Natch flashback...

You know as well as I do that doesn't tell the full story and to suggest otherwise is to bury your head in the sand.  We have lost 3 of our last 5 league games and there has been a distinct drop off in the quality of our performances.  Should that trend continue, we would start to slide down the table.  In the context of a team with aspirations of automatic promotion, I would say that is indeed worrying.

Ok, the defeat to Crewe was not good, albeit playing for most of the 2nd half with 10 men. We don't have a good record there either I suspect

Defeat at Swindon, with 10 men for pretty much the entire game and losing at home to a very good Preston team are not disasters

3 loses in 5 games, and a lacklustre performance against Telford aren't great, but we are still top. I think the top 4, and possibly Sheffield United will pull away (even more) and I'd be confident, with a tweak or two in January, that we'll be in contention come March / April. After what has gone before that would make me a happy City fan

but did you really think we would be top at xmas before season started?

Make of this what you will  . . .

Last 10 LEAGUE games

City 17 points from 30

MK 22 points from 30

Swindle 19 points from 30

PNE 19 points from 30

Hopefully in a few weeks our points tally will be more favourable to our closet rivals

But we're still top....I guess working out the points from the previous 10 games may not show the facts that some want to be displayed on here

Not necessarily, but what's your point? Just because we are top now should we not be concerned about a decline in performance level? Should we just congratulate ourselves on our league position and bury our heads in the sand?

Regardless of your expectations at the start of the season, surely having put ourselves in such a good position all fans might reasonably worry that we may not be there much longer based on recent results and performances.

why are people so sure we will be getting promotion?

we are 1 point clear with over half a season left, its far to early to be talking like we already have secured it.

Pre season i predicted 7th based on how cotts turned us around and the signings made. in the games i have seen and from comments by our own and other fans I dont think i will be far off.

many fans of other teams have said that we havent looked that good for a team who are top and i would agree in the games ive seen this season we definitely didnt put in the performances of promotion contenders.

bottom line- is it the end of the world? no, but i think sometimes the confidence on here becomes borderline arrogance at times (not this post but as a general comment) expecting to just win each game with 3-0 and 4-0 predicted each week.

if in march we are still top i will start giving promotion more of a thought, until then we are just the early pace setters and there is still a reasonable chance that we will end up as also rans

Very sensible. You'll be murdered for it :fear:

I don't really get all this 'if you told me at the beginning of the season i'd snap your hand off' rubbish.

That's not the way to look at things. What were we, 9 points clear earlier in the season? Our lead has slowly dwindled away and a lot of fans have buried their head in the sand. 'We are still unbeaten' or 'we are still top of the league'. We were 3-1 up away a fleetwood and drew 3-3. We were 1-0 up away at Walsall, completely in control for the 1st half and the gaffer decided to let them come at us for the whole 2nd half. It was a draw waiting to happen if you were there. I'm concerned that we are not as ruthless as MK Dons or swindon. With the exception of the peterborough game, we rarely seem to want to kill off our opponents. The oldham game at home is a prime example. 1-0 up at half time then sit back and let them come at us because and I quote 'we had our goal so we let them have it'. Good job they couldn't hit a barn door that day. Everything so far has been fantastic. We have a great squad, the manager has turned us around but in my opinion we need to kick on now and start being more ruthless. If we drop down and finish 7th do we bury our head in the sand and say 'it's better than last year so I'm happy' or do we ask ourselves how have we gone from being so far ahead at the top of the table?

win the next two games and this will be forgotten,

We are clearly going to strengthern in Jan as hinted too by SL at the Q&A,

These results happen, if we got spanked 3-0 by swindon preston and crewe then I would be worried, the fact two of those we had 10 men on the pitch speaks for our strength as a team,

I'm worried about the lack of goals but happy that we tightened up at the back,

The only real worry I have is Wilb's seems to be missing some really easy chances which is why we will strengthern up front,

Onwards and upwards,

Only lost 1-0 in all 3 defeats and 2 of those with 10 men.

Given that we will strengthen in January I feel confident of a top 6 finish at least.

After a start like we had, a 'top 6 finish' is the least we can expect. Blimey. We really should not be throwing away an advantageous position like this to finish in the play-offs which, should that be the case, would be psychologically difficult for any team - history proves it to be so.

I like the fact they are our 'closet' rivals - oooh, there's a frisson to that ( a frisson of what Iam unsure, but it's a frisson alright. I know a frisson when I see one).

We are 1 point ahead of the trailing 3 teams?? It's not that advantageous.
