Cup Nerves

Manon

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know it's over two weeks away, and the league takes precedent until then (don't tell cotts about this thread please)...

But this morning - at precisely 10.12, in fact - I experienced my first cup nerves.

Until today, it had just been 'a day out', a big pat on our own backs to remind ourselves how big we are, how great we are; football actually being casual light hearted fun for once...

Unfortunately this notion evaporated as a real fear of losing the final began to creep all over me like a rash. I WANT TO WIN THE CUP GOD DAMMIT!!

Why? We've done what matters - large sums of money are being poured into our coffers.

I hope people enjoy their day out, but the result is bloody irrelevant. Without googling, who won the Piss Pot Trophy in 2013? Any idea? Thought not..,

A league and cup double would be fantastic, but there is not a single league game that I would concede the 3 points for in return for a win in the JPT final.

In fact, one of the beauties of it is that the result really doesn't matter and we can just enjoy the day out. Of course I want to win, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over losing.

Knick Birmingham off their pirch as the only team to do a JPT and league double

Ah yes, Birmingham's claim to fame.

You can't go anywhere around WSM on a sunny summers day without some Brummie harping on about the day they won the JPT and then the league.

Winning the JPT will finally put that to bed and they will have to go back to harping on about their league cup win against Arsenal, 5 divisional championships, 2 FA cup finals and their European fixtures against Inter, Roma and Barcelona.

Are you sure it wasn't too much morning coffee Manon. No in all seriousness how unbelievable it would to be double winners in 2015. What a year to support the Reds. Could set up a belting summer :)

Don't know where it came from cbr but certainly no coffee involved.

I hate losing anything, and I don't want to head back down the m4 explaining to my boy that this is what he needs to get used to.

Considering the gap, I would actually swap there league points for that trophy, yes.

Mental? Maybe.

Must admit watching local news and seeing the Walsall boys being fitted out for their Wembley suits gave me the first twinge of nerves/excitement. It is more than just a day out it may only be a tin pot trophy to the man city's of this world but it's a trophy I want to see paraded around the Wembley Pitch around 5.30pm by the city players on the 22 of march!

Its a funny thing! I didn't go to the last FRT/JPT final we were in for some of the reasons stated on several threads.

When it comes down to it this final does highlight our failure to maintain a place in a higher division and I have sympathy with people who state this...

HOWEVER! This season, so far, has been immense for the club, players and supporters and as such the club and players deserve the biggest turnout we can give them to show our appreciation as supporters for the way they have conducted themselves and what they have achieved this term.

As such I have my ticket and I would encourage anyone thinking of not going to think again!

Overall the league is priority of course but I'd certainly sacrifice one league game if it meant winning this. Especially with the 10 point gap we have now.

I wouldn't. I'll enjoy the day out but if i had to choose one game to lose for the rest of the season then that would be it. I want the league title.

It matters not a jot, sure it would be good to win the thing, but way down on priorities, no nerves for me, I leave that to the important league fixtures.

Yes for goodness sake... Aizoon is always right his view counts the most and his posts are always the most relevant.

If that's your feeling on the JPT Manon, then good luck to you! Hopefully no explanation will be needed for the boy!

Yes that's how I feel. Thanks for the support!

Must admit, slightly bemused by the disrespect shown towards this competition tbh. Tin pot it may be, but are we so above it? Then why better compete on it and expend so much energy on it? It's just arrogance really, and embarrassing. I'm sure walsall won't be taking it lightly. It's the only cup we can realistically win, it IS our level, no matter what some might believe. In case anyone hasn't noticed, we haven't managed anything else yet in our 120+ year history...

Like I said, I want to win whatever we are in for, and losing will leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

I have to agree that this competition does mean something. Think of all the kids that are going and how heartbroken they will be if we don't win. Thinking back to when I was young, games like this mattered MORE than league games. Crazy but true.
