Bristol City: We're In The Market For A Top Goalscorer, Says Chairman Keith Dawe

Well, you can tell we're in the close season already - all of that statement is pretty much "the bleeding obvious" as someone once said!

We have a 36 year old, a player who's had a disappointing league 1 season, and in terms of strikers, that's it. I somehow didn't need Keith Dawe to tell me that we're in the market for a striker!

Yes but if the statement hadn't been made, everyone would have started "The club never communicate with the fans" bullshit.

Honestly can't we all just be happy for a while ?

How many goals did we score again ?

I couldn't give a toss who scores them as long as we score enough - and this team has goals in them.

A proven championship 25 goal striker would be nice, but we aint going to get one.

And FWIW, I wasn't Agards biggest fan but his recent games had me changing my mind.

Very much agree with all of this.

Agard arrived like a freight train, but slowed and only really rediscovered his form in the last while. Think he'll do well as part of our strike force next year, despite reservations previously.

Last time we went up we jettisoned out top scorer, and signed a bunch of strikers, with the highest scoring of those only getting 8/9 - the way we play now I think the pair we have now will beat that, and imagine strikers will want to play in a system where they will not want for opportunities.

Gonna be a fun summer.

I didn't realise Dawe could be speak English.

There must be another reason we have the most silent chairman in the football league then...

The man has just led our club (whether you've heard him doing it or not) to promotion by 8 clear points with three games to spare. WTF do you need to criticise him (or anyone else at the club right now) for not giving you sound-bites?

Would you prefer Risdale?

STFU and Carry On, Keith

Reading that article makes me think there's going to be some good money thrown about by SL.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us splash seven figures at least a couple of times.

I'm excited.

I agree , but I hope (and I'm sure ) with more caution and more wisely than previously.  He said a similar influx to last year , add 5,6 or 7 good players to an already good squad and next year could shape up nicely.

We clearly need two strikers who will play in the first team. I am not sold on Matt Smith at that level so am hoping for someone else. The difference nowadays is that I have confidence we will land them. This could be the calmest pre season for a long time.

Tend to agree with you, the succesful championship teams seem to have pacy explosive strikers and i believe this is the type we will be recruiting.

This team has plenty of goals in it apart from the strikers. If we can get one that will get us 20 goals next season that's great. But don't forget the "old man" up front this season and our centre back netted nearly 40 between them. Plus I believe every outfield player also contributed to the goal tally. The way we play means everyone gets the chance to get forward. Its great to watch and we score loads. It may not be quite so easy next year but just think "Bournemouth". FWIW I also think Agard will be a major goalscorer next year.

Agree with Fordy - seeing SLs face over last few weeks I think he may surprise us

His City Mojo looks as hot as it's ever been

Think it will be what Cotts wants Cotts will get - if the deal can be done

I agree Fordy, can a clever computer geeky type person put together a photo of Lansdown with his red hot City mojo (not exactly sure what that would like but sure to be funny).

The thing is though SC has never thrown money about at any of the clubs that he has managed, yes there will be money to spend but I also expect SC is a value for money type of manager and won't be held to ransom in the same GJ was in his fixation to sign Trundle.

There is nothing wrong with spending big on the right player. Look at Bournemouth bought Callum Wilson for a decent fee and could probably quadruple their outlay atleast if they so wished. Isn't this what we are supposed to be doing these days?

Agreed. But this is Bristol City and our record over the years on big money players is atrocious. You could even say of last summer's recruitment Agard has probably been worst value for money.

Maynard is perhaps the best example of us spending big wisely and even then we only sold him for 60% ish of what we paid for him.

I really don't think we need to go out and spend big this sumemr, plenty of options out there if we're shrewd.

You lost me with the Maynard logic but I understand and agree in the main what you are saying.

Andy Cole + Ade Akinbiyi were notable exceptions of course.

This forum is inundated with negative comments from you on players and officials at this club.

For someone who has been so vocal about not being able to get tickets, you have an amazing insight into their failings.
