Pubs That Have Gone

Another summer topic to while away the time;

I noticed the Wedlocks and Ship and Castle get a mention on the pre-match drinking thread and got me thinking of other boozers that have disappeared.

I'll kick off with The Enterprise.

Massive pub on Hartcliffe Way, just up the road from Parson Street station. Used to have live bands and a late licence on a Friday and Saturday night. Stop off point for the Westers on the way to Ashton Gate. Usually ended up in late night brawl.  :boxing:

Red Cow - not the friendliest but was on a slow death for years.

White Horse - friendly landlord great jazzband on Tuesdays now bleeding flats.

Albert (ok open but not the same) - used to be best pub south of the river in 90s. Great music lots of album sleeves everywhere. I miss the old Albert :(

Barrs Court Inn.

Run down by successive owners despite having once been rammed most night of the week.

Now a semi-good Indian restaurant.

Quite liked that place used to be decent for watching sport

Back in my yoof one of our favourite crawls was to catch the bus to old market and then hit every pub

on the way back up to the wood...we even made it back once !

Blimey wonder how many of those are still there on Church rd

sadly too many to mention :(

although the one I miss the most is the Royal Oak in portishead, sadly now a tesco metro

That's right by me and it's practically always empty. People don't like it after it closed down the Costcutter over the road

Really sad that.

1990 was the best year of my life and that pub played a major part.

I sometimes revisit the old haunts in Posset, but steer clear of West Hill as I couldn't bear to see it gone.

The Queens Head in Willsbridge. Got my first pint in there at the tender age of 15. Utter shithole and despite a string of landlords with big ideas, they could never get past the planning constraints of a listed building.

The very rules meant to protect the character of the place eventually lead to its downfall. Currently being a converted into a house, and one of the oldest pubs in the Bristol area lost forever.

I live near Old Market.  Not many good pubs around but there's always the Long Bar for a nice posh pint. :rofl2br:

The Progress on Westbury Lane turned into a nursery. Like most people in the area I was guilty of not using it enough and now it's gone I really miss having a pub like that in Coombe Dingle. Real shame.

Also, I miss Bar Med on Welsh Back. Always used to meet up there with mates early on Saturday evenings before heading into town.

What was the pub at the top of Redcatch Hill that's now a Tescos?

Also, does anyone have a picture of the Inns of Court pub? I can remember the Venture Inn but the Inns of Court is a mystery to me.

Think it was The Friendship Inn.
