RUMOURED Bristol City target Daniel Bentley has admitted he has aspirations to eventually play at a higher level.

The Southend goalkeeper has been monitored by City for quite some time now with the Post reporting the club's interest back in January.

The former Arsenal youngster, 21, has broken a club record this season by keeping 12 consecutive clean sheets and sides such as Leeds and Brentford are rumoured to be interested in his services.

No doubt Bentley will now be focused on getting Southend into League One after they beat Stevenage to earn a place in the play-off final at Wembley.

However, with Steve Cotterill's side in the Championship next season and with only one senior goalkeeper among the ranks, that being Frank Fielding, Bentley could be a welcome addition.

With a host of clubs after his signature, he told the BBC: "I have aspirations to play at the highest level. Coming from League Two at my age I am not going to go into a Premier League team and play straight away.

"For goalkeepers it is vitally important to play games and I have been able to build invaluable experience at Southend and I am very thankful and fortunate to get a chance here.

"The best way to achieve my dream for me would be to go through the leagues with Southend. It is a very romantic idea but sometimes opportunities come along that are too big to miss."

He talks a load of twaddle, won't go to a prem side cuz he wants to play, and would love to go thru the leagues with Southend but knows it ain't going to happen, genius this lad

Not sure what's wrong with what he's saying. Saying he wants to play at the top level eventually and would love that to be with Southend but admits it might be a tad unrealistic.
