Travelers

Really struggling with travelers where I live at the moment, taken over a farmers field having removed the gate to get in.

Can anyone give me a reasoned argument as to why these individuals seem to be above the law? All with these giant motor homes for their caravans and brand new bmw's mercs and range rovers etc yet just heap misery on land owners. I mean if you want to live in a caravan then what's wrong with a campsite like the rest of us????

I just don't get it...

Had 2 sets of travellers on my road. The first lot were very stereotypical. They dug down to the water pipes so no one in the road had any pressure, dogs that crapped everywhere and thieving kids.

The 2nd lot were an eyesore but the month they were there were the friendliest neighbours we've ever had. Always said hello, chats about my motorbike and were perfectly happy to lend us gardening tools.

They've got away with shit for years.

No surprise that when forced labourers (slaves) are freed in the UK it is usually these scum who've held them.

We had some that went from one place to the next for best part of a year where we live (Harlow in Essex). This time last year they were everywhere, they now have an injunction that stops any "traveller" from pitching up. Bear in mind there are two legal sites here already.

If BCC pull their finger out, they could I would imagine do the same. Wouldn't count on that.....

It is a long process, which was helped by national media coverage. Phone police, council and get as many people involved as possible and don't stop. If enough people moan they have to do something.

And that's the problem. Some are scum and some are OK. Who wants to take the risk on having them camp down the road?

Yes Dave, in Thornbury. You local Ned? All kicking off here at the moment..

There were some up by me in Alveston about a month/month and a half ago, for something like a week or two.

Perhaps it's the same ones who've moved down your way?

Edit: The article (above) confirms it's the same folk.

*******.

Thornbury has a history of problems with them and growing up there I remember some pretty nasty incidents. A lad i knew got held up at a cash point with a knife several years ago.

I guess the area is an easy target because its near the bridge and a rural area but with plenty of stuff to steal.

I feel sorry for the farmers and I actually know of the lad who is quoted in that article and they are a great family.

I guess the best advice is be a bit more vigilant but don't speak to or confront them because that's not going to achieve anything.  The authorities can deal with things eventually its just a shame there is so much bureaucracy blocking them from doing anything quickly.

But yeah, most of them are utter scum bags.
