Unfashionable Bristol City To Strike Again?

BRISTOL86

Recommended Posts

We have always been " unfashionable " , even when we made it to the old Division 1 we were often a three line mention after reams of pages about Leeds , Luverpool , Man Utd ...

Often along the lines of " and Sunderland lost at home to Bristol City "

Why are n't we fashionable ? I imagine because we've done very little of national interest in our history . We have no real national identity .

We are hopefully going to change all that .

A few people I've seen on twitter are tipping us to be dark horses, I think people see a club on the up - but after the season we had I'm not surprised we're in peoples thoughts

I remember OTIB feeling pleased that we were flying under the radar a little during our last spell in the Championship, I'm happy for that to be the case again

Yea compare our play off season to the coverage and plaudits bournemouth were getting last season and I see your point.

So many people I spoke to last season had an opinion on bournemouth one way or another and wanted them to go up etc. even as a city fan I don't remember many people talking about us like that to me, or around me.

Yep we will change all that. I'm utterly convinced that our time is coming soon.

That season back in 2007/8 is one I frequently hark back to, probably because it was...well...utterly mental.

You are right we did stay under the radar for a large part of the season, which suited us fine. It was all a bit 'har har look at little Bristol City - what are they doing up there bless em' from the rest of the division until I think they finally woke up to the fact we really were a serious threat and did mean business as we entered april top of the division.

To be fair we did have a lot of media interest throughout the play offs and many considered us the favourites in the final.

I dont think it will be quite the same this season, as last year's storming success would have set off the alarm bells already (remember last time around we had been stuck down there for an age too, so every one had literally forgotten about us!)..

We are unfashionable for a reason....we've achieved pretty much **** all since we started as a Club.

We are imho,  the Club with the biggest possible fan base, and possibilities, that has underachieved the most in this country.

I've had the opportunity to speak to various managers that have worked for us, going right back to Joe Jordan, and a common but sad theme was, how Amateurish and poorly run we were as a Club....compared to others.

However....we have every reason to do well this season, as other Clubs have done after going up from League 1.

We should be seeing this season as an opportunity....not a season just to 'settle'.

The Championship is littered with teams who bob about in it and have become stale.

That's what worries me the most, in three years time we're finishing 17th and haven't capitalised on the all the good that has taken place over the last 16 months

The ground will be finished, playing in front of 9,500 on a wet Tuesday against Rotherham in a bottom of the table game....fills me with dread

I would like to think in 3 years time it will be a question of but can Hazard do it on a wet Tuesday in Bristol

Best things come to those who wait, like a fine wine, City will be there one day.

manU, Cheslsea, ManC, what else can they achieve, we have it all to come, FA cup, Leage Cup, Prem status, prem winners, Champions league   Why not? If mid table Prem teams can get in EURO cup then we should be able to aim for that too. Best City in UK, we will always be able to attract players here.

its not about history its about the now and now we are on the up

Cannot see us ever playing in front of so few in Div 3 let alone Div 2

As for the OP.. i like the 'under the radar' analogy.. been using it for years. Long may it continue until we reach the Prem then we are gonna be all over the tabloids and up and in their faces.

I don't think we will ever be fashionable, there is only a few prem teams that might think they are you know United City Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool Spurs perhaps, the rest not really, and I suppose in Malaya or wherever, any other clubs would be off the radar, and most certainly off their backs.

However Lansdown has the dream about Bristol becoming another Barcelona, so you never know when you lot are on some foreign jolly somewhere you just might see the City colours. Not beyond the realms...our owner has the dosh to pull it off.
