'Orns
Surely it is just as much their's as it is ours? I'm not saying it's ours either! I'd like to think that it's a problem all of us need to look at and sort out. I'm sure that there are plenty of people there who blame Britain for why they can no longer feel safe in their own country and that maybe we owe them something. I get it, but I don't think storming a tunnel to get here is the answer I guess there's two choices, we either invite them all to a party at a particular time, with free food and booze - then drop a bomb on them, or we actually do something to clean up this cluster**** of a mess that we (the royal we) have created and help these poor buggers I really do worry about the world that we are handing over to our children / grandchildren

I wouldn't let in any migrants and you repatriate those who arrive. If you seem a soft touch then they'll keep coming.

That's the point though, we're hardly 'letting them in' It's like a tap where the washer has gone, a trickle is suddenly becoming a steady stream As for the soft touch, we're ****** on that one - our reputation precedes us on that point
BCFC Jimmer
Can't wait till the OTIB far right movement comment on this. Farage must be loving all these headlines, more votes in the bag for him I would suspect. Like with all these things you get people coming out with outrageous comments like, "set the army on them", and "lets close the tunnel now" which I have regrettably read in the last few days. To solve these problems we have to look at the root of the issue. Why do they want/have to come here? There are many reasons for this but the UK and western world in general are almost certainly partly to blame with their trade deals and ridiculous foreign policies. If we start addressing these issues at the source then we might see improvements.

Have to agree with our Commonwealth cousin on this one. Regardless of what Cameron says or does, history has set a precedent: Britain is a soft touch - the land of 'milk and honey' for immigrants seeking houses, jobs and benefits (even if this isn't strictly the case anymore, it's what people think). Actions speak louder than words: repatriate those that get through without consequence.

Barrs Court Red
Well clearly we can't let them in. It sends the wrong message. European border security is a huge security risk, and as the Tunisian beach attack showed, the threat is very real.
Aussie
You can change from being a soft touch. Australia had an immigrant problem and when Howard came in he brought in the policy of mandatory detention for all asylum seekers. Then Rudd went further and stated any genuine seekers were still banned from Australia and would be settled in PNG. Now Abbott has the navy tow the boats back to Indonesia and set fire to those boats that made it. You have to take away the carrot. Replace Indonesia with France and you've got the same problem in the UK. Difference being UK isn't as tough. But it can be.

Aussie
Short term fix, round them up, put them into the same holding pen based on nationality, send chartered planes to send them back home. Cost = less than 250 million pounds a day. Sorted. They'll soon get the message that they wont be getting into Britain. That's what you need to do. You can't reason with that lot. Just take a look at them.

I don't think Farage's Canute style idea that leaving the EU stops all illegal immigration will work. Been to Norway? Been to Switzerland?

Bear in mind a lot of these 'migrants' have said they have nothing to lose and are willing to die for the cause. A very difficult situation. As i have already mentioned we need to start addressing the root of the problem rather then just looking at short term fixes.

It's the fact that they are desperate people - often from countries destroyed by war, like Syria - which is why you can't just "round them up and fly them back". EDIT:: I note you've admitted this in your reply to Screech above. But they aren't just some sort of cut-throat army. Many are educated, articulate men. Many would be an asset to the UK. However, if you read any individual stories, you realise that most are
