Over zealous policing

Recommended Posts

Sat in a pub in Cheltenham on the way home, we're with approx 30+ people women AND children.

They were all turned away from the ground today, have seen pink slips from women and men  all told they were not allowed near the ground

What is going on!?

The transport police chucked you off the trains?

Being confronted by WMP finest obstructing our exit from the away end and refusing to move was really helpful.  Do 13 year old daughter and my disabled son really constitute a threat to law and order?  I'm always mindful to paint the police in the positive light and someone that my kids can turn to when they need help but even they felt uncomfortable when the police were staring us out in a really confrontational way.

incorrect

Only in areas that have Designated Public Place Orders

yes I noticed the signs around the ground saying this. I saw someone drinking and the copper said to him hide it away in your jacket.

If I ser the police do something wrong then im the first to moan but on the other hand today I saw some excellent policing so shall praise them for that. I didnt witness any heavy handed actions and my interactions with them were very friendly. Seemed to be a mix of our police and their police.

Only moan I have is as I was walking away from the stadium towards morrisons a bunch of pathetic city fans jumped out of a mini bus and attacked some brum fans who were wearing shirts. My only moan is that there were no police around as these people should not be anywhere near football stadiums. Many children witnessed this incident.

that is rather embarrassing. Wish they would stick to fighting themselves in the Atyeo.

I almost felt embarsssed for the spotty stons island teenagers as they jumped off the mini bus expecting their elders to back them up. Think the elders were either too busy wetting themselves or trying to pretend they had nothing to do with these morans. The look on these teenagers faces when they realised they were surrounded by brum and no one would back them up made the entry fee worthwhile. It reminded me of that scene from the football factory film where their coach drives off and they chase after it to escape the rival fans.

Brum brought it on and got that famous Zulus reputation shoved up there arse.

The West Midland Pigs were a disgrace to day, following us in in unmarked cars, heading out dispersion orders against everyone, even charging a apparent blue pub for just being there.

I could go one but this lot are PIGS of the highest order.

Lovely stewards though, credit where it's due.

WMP are without doubt the worst. They did nothing but antagonize all day. They were taking every opportunity to create issues and flashpoints.

I was in the pub when they sent in the drugs dog and 10-15 bully boy coppers in baseball hats for no reason other than to cause a potential flashpoint. I was also stopped on exiting the ground on the basis that some WMP bully decided I was someone he recognised on a banning order (which I obviously am not), again no point to it and was just done to cause a potential issue as I was walking away from the ground.

We thought this was odd as well. It was quite an obstuction for a lot of people exiting in one go. Bump into one of these yellow-clad roadblocks ("sleeping policemen" ;) ) and then what.....?

Always been an awful policeforce & they're clearly not learning.

After today's Specticle ....I think it's safe to say they're the worst force In the country...

had had one of my friends sent back as he got off the train; had myself threatened by an officer and a duty manager in the pub saying if I kept singing between my friends and I then I'll be off the premises and not allowed to the game....

FCOL myself and two others were singing build me up buttercup ( personal joke)

then last but not least they plucked the escort out at random and nicked people who's done naff all wrong !!

Some of those officers were from Bristol. I guess the purpose of these 'police roadblocks' were to stem the flow of us visiting supporters as fans gently blended in with brum fans instead of all at once. Better than locking the gates and not letting us out like ive experienced at other grounds.

All I can say Is apart from the small Incident I witnessed which to clear things up were two shirters on a bus stop whos only crime was a bit of friendly banter that these two lads from the mini bus couldnt handle then the policing etc was spot on. I arrived In brum at 11 had a few quiet drinks then went to the ground.

Thinking objectively maybe sometimes people should lok at the job the police have to do? I cant comment on any incidents todsy as I didnt see them but my advice is if you want to avoid these incidents then keep your head down anf keep yourselves to yourselves and you will have a incident free day like myself and many others.

Do you not feel that by using the travel arrangements you did and then being wuite vocal your bringing undue attention on yourself?

Getting their practice in for the Villa game?

The police were a disgrace today. Pushing kids outside the away end that didn't have train tickets cus obviously their dads had them.

Sending away City fans from the game for no apparent reason??

I'll  be getting in touch with Amanda Jacks at the FSF and would urge all other witnesses to do so too.

Didn't go today but is this really worth a thread,it's always been the same for all the years I have been going away, just got to put up with it

Of course it is, nothing changes if people are apathetic. At worst it makes people who may not know what to expect with WM Police aware of what they can be like. At best, as mentioned above, it could make people get in touch with the FSF and take it further.

If this was a 'tactic' then use some strategically placed barriers and stand behind them.  Give people some information so they understand and will be more likely to comply.  Speak to people (preferably on the way in) or put something out over the tannoy.  This was intimidation pure and simple.

I have no idea what part of the country  any of these police officers were from because they did not speak, but obviously they all were under the control of the WMP.  I'd say they were from from the 1970s - police force rather than a service.
