This is a very good point. Apparently the family of the dead boy left Syria for Turkey in 2012 and only recently decided to travel on to improve their economic prospects. Merkel's commitment to take in 800 000 refugees/migrants (who knows which are which?) without providing the transport to take them there is a gift to people traffickers. It is not unreasonable to argue that this encouragement makes them responsible for loss of life in transit. Besides how will she know when 800 000 have arrived? What will the Germans do when another 800 000 are approaching their non-existent border encouraged by her welcoming words. Turn them away, erect barbed wire fences? She has been over-hyped and overrated for far too long, strutting around Europe with Sarkozy and Hollande failing to properly resolve problem upon problem. As Screech has said this could be the biggest clanger of all.

This article should be compulsory reading for all. I was away in France when that poor child's body was washed up so was not completely sure I'd translated the article correctly saying the family had been safe in Turkey since 2012.
