Imagine if Cotts got the gig and took them up...:P

@Esmond Million's Bung- diferent coaches different leagues etc. Neville and Moyes really did/are doing well over in Spain. McClaren didn't do great things or even anything half-decent at Wolfsburg after spending a fair bit...foreign or UK trained irrelevant.

McClaren won the league in Holland as manager though, with an unfancied club. Great achievement...

And is Neville doing that well in Spain?

That's true, Twente was excellent tbh. Neville is doing a rather poor job tbh, was being a bit. 14th in La Liga now...

It's the odd thing however, UK coaches used to do very well in Spain in 80s, and to an extent the 90s.

It's a lot different now over there though. I detest Spanish football yet onced loved watching it. The odds are well and truly stacked against all but the big two financially plus it is full of the biggest cheats and it is where cheating is not only acceptable, it's encouraged.

Valencia are bigger than 14th though, and no win in 9...they're better than that! Should be 6th-8th in this current season, perhaps even pushing for top four. Agree about the financial weighting and cheating yes but when you're the 4th biggest club in Spain and you in successive League games:

Lose your unbeaten home record since Nov 2014 to a side who lost last 7 away games with a record of 0-0-7-2-17

Lose away to a team who haen't won at home since August.

Then you're failing pretty badly- goes for the manager also.

But the smaller sides are causing the big two more problems this and last year than in quite a while.

I don't disagree he's doing utter crap, but I also think the days of English managers doing well over there are long gone unless it cleans up its act, or they land the Barca/Real (mainly Barca) gig.

Absolutely. Gotta commend them both for doing it. It'd be good to see a couple go to the Budesliga now as I think that'll be a better fit, especially for Mr Neville.

Clement hasn't really shown much as a gaffer; lots of fanfare, a LOT of money spent for this level, but didn't last out the season.

Some people are managers/head coaches, some are assistants; agree with you he'll head back to what he does best at Bayen - not the worst outcome for him.

It's not like Derby were rooted at the bottom. They were a couple of good results from being in the playoffs. A lot of people say he should've done better with the money spent, but frankly it's rare to see anyone achieve overnight success after a spending spree. Outside of Monaco, the likes of Man City, Chelsea, and co took a few years to get there, despite outspending their rivals.

Very interesting article on why Clement was sacked: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35533154

Basically too much 'short-term thinking' and not buying into the way the club wants to develop long-term. The Chairman basically says he isn't bothered about promotion to the Prem this season! All about building for long-term success.

It's actually similar thinking to one of the reasons SC was sacked - not providing a pathway from the Academy to the first team.

In fairness, the primary thinking behind SC being sacked was that we were in grave danger of relegation to league 1.
