Fair enough they've struggled for form recently but every team has a blip, some more than others but I would hardly say Derby were out of the running for promotion!! Inherited what was already one of the best squads in the league, spent 25m and had them in awful form clinging onto a play off spot. Any capable manager would have had them top 2 comfortably by now.
