Anyone got any tips/recommendations for Nice, as we have a couple of 'rest' days there inbetween the Russia and Wales games?

@NiceRed or are you just a nice guy?

Nice is a beautiful place, but the nightlife is limited. Wayne's Bar, which is just off the main drag, is your best hope of a late night drink with a bit of music and atmosphere.

Or try the casino, but you have to be suitably attired to get in there.

There was an O'Neills last time I went as well, but it was nothing to write home about.

Anywhere in the old town 'vielle ville', although closing time for normal bars is 02H00 - try Big Ben or Wayne's Bar if you are looking for English type bars, but get in to a smallish French bar if you speak the language as they will look after you.

Sorry, I can't help you with night clubs.

I would say I am aware of the potential for a terrorist attack. Like modern life today, you have to be vigilant and make your own assessments of the risk and its consequences.

My travel plans are off, if they actually target Euro 2016. If suicide bombers start blowing themselves up at stadiums and fan zones, I would imagine the tournament will be impacted massively.

Games behind close doors,  games played on different days or worst case the tournament is cancelled.

The French security forces will have a huge job on their hands over the next month or so.

I hope they have the place locked down tight. One of our lads was at the French Open. He said he was checked 3 times for wearing a vest.

Stevo. I think there will be security from some other countries as well, probably keeping a low profile, but nevertheless ready for any problems.  I know it's a different situation, but when Estonia played England in the qualifiers here in Tallinn, two British bobbies were here in full uniform and even allowed tourists to have photos taken with them in the Old Town Square.  Anyway, best of luck in your travels, stay safe and that goes for everyone going.  I will be watching on telly and willing England on.

Staying with the sister-in-law just outside of Nice for a few weeks, and will be there after the Russia game:  this is for information only, I have no idea of the night-life, or lack thereof, in the town.

That said @NiceRed, @PHILINFRANCE or anyone else with local knowledge, any suggestions for a place to drink in the day before Poland - N.Ireland would be most welcome.

Nice. We're training it from Marseille to Nice Sunday morning so will also be there for the N Ireland - Poland game. Hoping to find some tickets on the day of the game.

OK. I have noted the fact you are staying with your sister-in-law is for information only .

Unfortunately, as far as it concerns (other) night life, I only know Nice from a business view, i.e. a nice walk on the Promenade des Anglais and dinner after.

Try the old town though - there are numerous French/Italian and English/Irish bars, although I seem to recall these seem to close at around 02H00ish and anything later requires a 'bar de nuit' licence and invariably invites the normal girls of the night.

Clearly going to be a target and the guy caught the other day clearly proves it.

However, the intelligence between so many nations should more difficult for an attack to be successful. I really hope I'm proved correct, I do think there will be disruption to some games because the authorities will not take the risk.

The biggest risk to fans will be the fan parks, but I think those in the grounds will generally he safe.

It's a sad , sad world we live in and we even are discussing this

The Nice bit of my username does indeed refer to where I used to live, rather than my personality. Lived there from 2002-2005, though I try and pop back for a weekend a year.

In terms of Nice nightlife, it's more a bar place than a nightclub place. The main nightclubs around that area (if you're looking for that) are probably in Cannes (which I always hated) and Juan Les Pins. In the daytime, worth taking a train along the coast as the Nice beaches aren't great. Villefranche is probably my favourite. Or Cap d'Ail. Antibes in the other direction is nice.

So Nice...for a lively bar which will show the football you're probably still looking at Waynes. I'll likely be there this Friday and Saturday night. Met Steve Bruce in there a few years back, randomly, with his son and Lee Catermole. That'll be open til about 1 or 2am.

Alternatives are Thor on Cours Saleya. Always a safe option. Ma Nolans is ok I guess. The O'Neills that someone here referred to is now called Paddy's Bar (I think) and was very quiet on my last few trips. I'd avoid. I quite like a French bar just up from Waynes called Idee Halles (or something like that).

If it's sunny, just settle into any bar on Cours Saleya. Doesn't really matter which.

For really late bars, a few I used to go to back in the day (Escalier, Williams) are closed. Blue Whales may be your best bet. That'll be open til 5ish. There may be other new ones I don't know about.

Hope that helps...my Nice knowledge is definitely a bit rusty I'm afraid.

A wonderful town.

Steer well clear of the railway station, anywhere within walking distance of Capitole is good fun and lively at night.

If you are looking for a 'home from home', there is an English themed pub - Le Frog and Roast Beef': a bit tacky, but lively and will show live matches on numerous screens.

During France '98, me and the missus stayed opposite Toulouse railway station.  Above a sex shop in the heart of the red light district.  The people were friendly though, some of the women especially so...couldn't quite work out why though.....

Is there anyone on here still looking for 1 or 2 tickets for the Russia game?  Good chance our group may have spares, but I won't know until later for sure.  Only looking for face value and will be in Marseille on the day.  Down side is the purchaser has to sit near me, and I am a miserable, cynical, grumpy old bastard.

Afternoon

I have got one spare ticket for England v Russia that i am trying to sell on behalf of my mate

Its a 105 euro one, and he only wants face value for it.

I will be there in person with some mates, we bought tickets at a lower price band in the first sales.

My mate decided to join us later, bought a standalone ticket at the higher price bracket in a following resale, but now has to pull out due to family issue.

The only problem is that he was due to sit on his own, and it has his name on it.

So the ticket is legit, he will sell it for face, i can meet them to hand it over, but the buyer will have to take a chance on the ID check aspect.

I am confident i will find someone on the day willing to take that chance, but would rather it went to someone on here if they want it.

Drop me a message if keen

Have you been to tournaments before..?!

The risk of attack has pushed this to the fore. Many tournaments previously had the same stipulation but generally overlooked due to the headache of hearding people into the ground. Unfortunately  with the massively heightened security concerns I believe this tournament could actually follow through on the checks.

We've been VERY lucky to get 2 tickets for England v Wales through a sponsor. Unbelievably excited!

We're in Green stand, Gate E, Block 0.5

Anyone any idea if this is in with England fans, Wales fans or neutral areas? I can't find any information or stadium plans online and want to know if it will be safe to wear England colours?!

Cheers all!

Don't want to do a favour for a fellow city fan do you please? I'm not on Facebook so can't access the group :-/

Would love to but alas. Join Facebook fella There is a whole new world out there.

Anyway it's probably gone. The person selling it would want to verify who is buying it. Then you would need to arrange payment and collection.  Tickets like this one involve a lot of leg work. No way the seller would deal with a third party.

If you thought there wasn't a reason to join Facebook then maybe this is it!

Cheers mate and good luck with your search.

No chance. My wife's name is on my ticket and she isn't travelling. In fact her name is on 4 tickets. It's impossible to enforce.

Usually if you have a valid ticket and valid ID you will be absolutely fine.
