Adam Matthews - Signed (Season Long Loan)

Yeah quite conceivable that Allardyce, with his football knowledge was keeping him there as cover till a first choice rb was brought in but now he's gone and there are people with no football knowledge running the club and making the decisions, they may just see him as a way of getting a few million into the club.

Have you got numbers for those who would change their minds after realising that Boris and Nigel sold them down the river before buggering off and letting others sort out the next few years of "transition"?

Do you have the numbers wanting to change their mind. That was just the press reacting to the first few days of shock.

You do realise there's a specific Brexit thread in the non football chat section. Would be so much better if this thread could stay on the topic of Matthews.

On the topic of Matthews....

I've heard that Matthews wants to leave but Sunderland are saying remain.  Matthews main concern is with all the jonny-foreigner footballers taking his job.

Sunderland are concerned that they may not get into Europe if Matthews leaves.  In a bizarre twist, the lead remainer has now resigned.

Yep, read he's been left behind.

You'd think a new manager would want to look at all the players he's inherited, must be some staff members telling Moyes to get rid?

Surely this has to be done tomoz?

He would not be left behind if they needed the apparent cover we were led to believe they had to recruit first.

Driving down the M5 in the morning I hope :fingerscrossed:

This is the problem with having a new manger appointed in the close season. He hasn't got time to personally assess players, so has to make buy and sell decisions based on limited knowledge of the players. Added to the fact that you might get the sacked mid season due to lack of instant mid season results, why would anyone want to be a Premier League manager? (Apart from the million pounds pay off when sacked )

This is a strange one, and with Matthews being left behind it pretty much confirms that the whole "need a replacement before selling" line was knackers - they don't have one, and he's still not in plans.

Says to me one of two things:

- We know he's not in plans and as such are making low offers

- AM knows Sunderland want rid, and they're trying to ease him out. However, he has various bonuses he'll lose if he asks for a move so is waiting to be sold rather than ask to go

Pure guesswork here, but possible that if AM asked for a move Sunderland would have accepted a lower bid, and right now it seems it's all three parties waiting for someone to blink

I suspect this may be close to the truth.
