Missing the game for the sake of a drink

...so long as its the same as yours? they pay their money as you do.

They don't really block your view just obstruct it for a few seconds, is everyone supposed to sit till exactly ht then all make a mad rush for the loo/drinks etc;? aint gonna happen.......ever. The only way would be to move to the front row or hire a ex box?

As I have made abundantly clear I accept that people have the freedom to do as they choose - but that doesn't mean I have to like their decision if it impacts negatively on my own experience and that of others. Even if it is only for a few seconds, the cumulative effect when lots of people do it is more significant.

Being able to watch the game on the TV's whilst queuing for a beer means barely a second of action is missed.

Considering the queues in the 'horseshoe' at half time, it's no wonder so many leave early to beat them.

It's about ten seconds behind the action.  I missed the goal as I went to the toilet.  Heard the cheers and was left in a state of confusion for ten seconds as the screens caught up.

All this getting up during the game annoys me enormously.  I have come to watch a football match and feel those who can't sit still for 45 mins are being totally inconsiderate towards others who have paid good money to watch.

Totally agree.  Old gits like me with ancient "waterworks" and a dodgy medical condition have to take the utmost care to manage intake of liquids in the hours leading up to a match - all to save being caught short and having to miss even a second of precious football!

I suppose so yes. Just don't get it. And the mass exodus is annoying for those of us who actually want to watch the game.

I don't get why rapists rape but they do never try to understand other people mate you'll be their the rest of your life trying to and still never figure it out!

my uncle missed the the Donowa game versus the gas because he wanted 1 more pint with his mates whilst me and my grandad (I was 6 my first derby) went on down we got in and he got locked out like a lot of others ( without sounding to much like the gas)

I'm with you on this one red, couldn't possibly miss a minute of play whether it's the start, half or full time. Been to a few rugby internationals at Twickenham and the constant up and down in your seat just so people can get drink has put me off going.

Ever been to a Test Match? When a mate and I visited Lords a few years ago we were alone in a sea of seats most of the England innings. Everyone around us was pissing it up in one of the beer tents or corporate hospitality!

I had the misfortune to get a freebie ticket to watch a basketball game in Dallas a few years ago.

Now, if anyone thinks its bad at Ashton Gate, I suggest they attend one of those games. I have never seen so many people moving around during a game in my life - a good percentage of the 18k in that arena were on their feet heading for bars/food etc all the game. Couple that with some bloke in a monkey outfit shooting tee shirts into the crowd during the game and a live band striking up during any pause, the game took second place to everything else.

It aint bad at our football matches...

Once you've seen one basketball "goal".......

I like to get into the ground 15 minutes before kick off armed with a bag of Marshmallows and bottle of Pepsi Max!!

Sing me art out to "one for the Bristol City" then settle down and wait for the late comers. It don't annoy that the late comer then becomes the early goer five minutes before half to go for a pee and grab a drink. The early goer then becomes the late comer as they arrive five minutes after the start of the second half, on the odd occasion the late comer leaves five minutes before the game ends and so becomes the early leaver. Me I'm stuck until until at least ten minutes after the game has finished as it ain't easy getting out of the Dolman!!

Gloucester CCC and England proud but the difference is cricket is a minimum of 6hrs but footie is 90 mins and rugby is 80!

I was amazed yesterday just how many people started disappearing down into the concourse from about 38 minutes onwards to get a drink.

Probably the "real" fans who need to wet their throats after so much singing

I used to have a season tkt in the old Williams.3 city fans would arrive 5 mins after kick off, leave 10 mins before the end of the first half and take there seats 10 mins late for the 2nd half! Your not the only one who thinks it's strange.but to some people alcohol is the b all and end all

Not just unique to city. Mr Portsmouth "the tit with the bell" apparantly arrives at least 10mins late and leaves 10mins early for each half aswell. Yet strolls around like he's the best fan in the world.

Source :multiple Pompey season ticket holders.

It seems to happen at AG more than any other ground, been like it for years, the old Dolman was like Piccadilly Circus all through a match.

Don't believe this for a second, but I've never stared at home stands coming up to half time so you "could" be correct

If you wait until the HT whistle to go get a pint, most the time you will miss the start of the second half by the time you've queued and consumed it.

Either way if you get a drink you're probably going to miss a bit of the game so what's the harm leaving before the HT whistle?

For some people football is just about the 90 minute game, for others its about the whole match day experience of socialising with friends and fellow fans win lose or draw.

If people want to have a pint - let them and stop moaning about it!

Try Stamford Bridge, Neil.  It's like sitting in the concourse of Euston Station.

(Except when they'll all be glued to their seats watching the Gas of course  )

Seriously,  I think the problem seems worse in the Dolman because of the poor design of the new exits and the less spacious seating arrangement.

You see it at full-time: the rest of the ground is virtually empty but the gangways of the Dolman are still packed with stationary people queueing to get out.

The worst case I've seen was at Wembley last year, which I suppose is expected as there were a lot of fans for one day. I had to have a pee about 10 minutes into the second half and was amazed to see what must have been 2 or 3 thousand people stood around chatting and drinking.

Just goes to show the modern day football fan is made up of all sorts of people, very different to years ago.

I was the Millennium Stadium for Wales's grand slam decider against France a few years ago and it was like a flaming bus station with people constantly coming and going.  If you were sitting in an aisle seat, you probably got to see 25% of the game.

At my great age I admire the strength of bladder that allows a couple of pre-match pints and one at half time, and then allows the individual to watch all the game!  I bet they are like me though - and dread the prospect of long injury times or extra time in cup matches!!

I think the reason people are 'moaning' about it is , that your must have a drink at all costs causes other folk a problem with you selfish moving up and down the concourse and seating. To me supporting City is more important than having a drink, and socialising with your mates, you can do that in the pub afterwards....not really into football are you?

I only make the people in the seats next to me move once during the game, and that is 5 minutes before the HT whistle when me and the 4 other season ticket holders I go with leave to get a pint.

Doesn't really cause a problem to them - we usually wait for a break in play before getting up.

I'm just as entitled to go get a drink as you are to watching every second of the game (because you're such a bigger fan than me:chant6ez:)

I'm a little frustrated that we've spent £40m on a redeveloped stadium with a brand new concourse area, and no thought was put into streamlining the kiosks in an attempt to serve food and drink quickly.

If the club could sort that out no-one would need to leave their seat before the whistle blew for HT.

What about the people behind you?  And the people behind them?  And what about the cumulative effect of many others doing the same thing and thus blocking views as they head down the steps?  Yes, yes, I know, freedom of choice etc etc, but I just can't relate to the mentality of putting a drink ahead of the game.

My block is half empty by this point anyway so I cant be blocking that many people (most of them have gone to get a pint).

"Most" people in your block have disappeared by the 40 minute mark to go and get a drink?  You're saying more than 50% of the people sat in your block miss the last five minutes of the half.  Are you seriously expecting us to believe that?

And if that's really the case, how do you think that affects the view for the other 50% who actually want to watch what they have paid to watch?

I just find it hard to believe that it affects your match day experience that much. If it really was a massive problem surely the club (and every other club in the country) would step in to put an end to it?
