What a ball...

We saw the best and worst of Tomlin and BCFC for about a period of 3 or 4 minutes after we scored.

Firstly almost straight from the kick off Tomlin softly surrendered possession on the hallway line and GON and Smith lost concentration and they ran straight through the middle with defenders back pedalling, luckily it came to nothing.

and then we had a free kick in an attacking position and decided to piss around with that kick and immediately lost possession and if that wasn't enough directly after that the ball was correctly taken into the corner but far too weakly surrendered. I know it's nit picking but poor game management cost us dearly at Sheff Wednesday.

Overall we defended well, just a couple of dodgy moments and I believe that if GON and Smith can stay fully fit, eventually that will prove to be a solid midfield to allow Tomlin to do the voodoo that he do so well and Pack is a very apt replacement if either falter or become injured.

Today again we really lacked a goal threat and that has to be January's main concern, as I am sure it will be.

Fantastic player on his day, Bit disappointed with him today though. Not so much ON the ball, but off it I felt he was lazy.

For instance, when Blackburn had there 2-3 corners in the 2nd half and the ball was cleared to 10 yards outside our box, he just wasn't interested in getting to the ball first. On another day the opposition player hangs it in from 25 yards, luckily not today though.

Like I say, bags of ability on the ball, but could do a lot more imo.

Or in pro terms , he 'cheats' at times / a lot of the time

Tomlin's skill, vision and flair are a class apart in this division, he is clearly an automatic selection for us and rightly so. What we're perhaps becoming more aware of this season are the flaws in his all-round game. Frankly if he was a more complete player then he probably wouldn't be at Bristol City, so I suspect that we are just going to have to get used to it. Although I do wish he'd cut out the back chat!

Frustrating though CR

Just a bit more effort and he'd be so much a more influential player

Even if he made more of an effort to find space and demand the ball

As for the back chat , on one occasion he lost the ball and 'ran' alongside the ref moaning as a Blackburn player advanced towards the edge of our box only yards away :mf_sleep:

ridiculous tbh

That's very true, and very JET-like when you read it like this. You never know how he going to react, must be quite difficult fir his teammates. Sometimes he works hard winning a ball back with doggid determination, other times he just almost too easily lets the player go. On form he is brilliant, but as you say flawless he isn't.

Indeed. I'd say Tomlin is to the Championship what Jet was to League One.

I see what you mean but remember JET couldn't even get in our side that went up from League One. Not fit to lace Tomlin's boots.

That's true to be fair. I was thinking more in terms of standout skill and flair at that level, but with weaknesses that ultimately prevent them being able to make the step up. In Jet's case those weaknesses were also enough to stop him being first pick in a division-winning side.

Absolutely agree Tomlin is the superior player too.

Horrible defending though.

Wasn't a good ball as defender should have cut it out.

I'd love to see that pass again.  It looked like it had a bit of late 'draw' on it, that meant Mulgrew couldn't quite get to it.

For once tonight I disagreed with LJ on Radio Brizzle saying that the ball didn't go through Tomlin enough.  At times I think others take the easy option by passing to LT, when they don't have to.

Twentyman got it right when he said to a caller "he would be in my side every game"

For all his poor attributes he has vision and skill that can unlock games - his pass today did - it was so sharp and incisive the defender was all at sea and could not sort out his legs to cuf it out.

The truth is we only have him due to the poor attributes - if he had a bit more pace and was more involved he would be playing at the level we are trying to reach - we really need to drop the criticism of his weaknesses and embrace the strengths and love him as he is cos his ego needs that love to maximise his involvement !!

It's on sky sports website.  It went right next to him.  I was in line with the pass so glad my eyes weren't deceiving me.

Agreed regarding Tomlin

Are you serious ??

You obviously are :o

Gonna be controversial

All a matter of opinion but was watching him and he did nothing to help us when they had the ball and was very mixed , at best on it

No one is asking him to run 30 yards backward when we are defending but I was dissapointed he didn't even jog to find space when we had the ball

Thats the sort of player he is , but he could work a little bit harder , ability or not

no doubt as talented as anyone on the pitch but he had a free role with no responsibility and IMO can effect the game more than he did today

His pass for the goal was decent but he is very much a luxury type  - ( fine as long as he contributes offensively )

TIn Hat On ;)

Can't believe people are so negative about the lad, we need to embrace his talent, we're certainly fortunate to have a player of his calibre.. best I've seen in my 30 years of following City!!

Good evening one and all. It was a cracking hard and flat pass from the human Yorkie Bar, and a moment of inspiration in a forgettable City display.

Wilbraham sprinted for the ball like Usain Bolt collecting his pension and finished with aplomb.

How good will City be when they start to play consistently well?

Disagree, on raw talent alone I don't think there's that much in it. Both very able players but one hasn't fulfilled his potential at all.

JET is so frustrating, at his best he's absolutely unplayable and I think he could transfer that to this league if he really wanted to. That's the issue though, his application. I get the impression he enjoys socialising and partying with his rapper friends a bit too much to ever fulfil his potential as an athlete.

I don't think his build helped him either, he's got the physique of a centre half or towering forward but seems to naturally play more like a 10 stone 5ft 7" playmaker, I don't think his body is designed for an endurance sport really. Spectacular player when he's at his best though, but you need to let him do his own thing and we can't afford to do that in this set up or Cotterill's side before.
