BS4 on Tour...
Lots of debate and speculation on here prior to the Hull game about the potential attendance. Newcastle had a 49,000 crowd tonight against a team in the same division....much smaller population than Bristol and not a really successful club either. What a fantastic set of supporters they have yet lots on here slag them off. Some cities are obsessed with their local club and some just aren't .... TV Tom
Fair point, for me one City that aren't obsessed with their team and are constantly over-hyped are Leeds, a massive City with only one club to support and yet can barely manage an average of much more than 20,000. Nearly 30,000 Bristolians on average watching their football this season if you count our friends North of the river, not bad for a "non- footballing City" considering the dross we have had to put up with for many years

Kids prices were less for u16, more for u11s*. Plus 1900 Norwich (a good following. Very good). *than our kids prices

It's a great crowd but we've never won a thing or had the chance to build a "tradition" (no-one does this on L1 football, or being relegated from the second tier), we're trying to do that now, 50/60 years too late. And Newcastle built their tradition on heroic and famous cup runs and wins, and league titles before that, not by making nine changes and playing a practice match for the first 45 minutes. I understand why LJ rotated, so we'd better get something Saturday and build our tradition in the league.
Red Exile
There's a bit more to it than ticket prices! Have you ever met anyone whose a Geordie who isn't a Newcastle fan? By contrast I've barely ever met a Bristolian living outside Bristol who supports City...or Rovers for that matter. It's a matter of history and tradition...which, sadly, we don't have... But there's still time to create it.

They've been in the top division for most of their existence.. they've lots of illustrious players who've played for them.. it's not a fair comparison really. If we had an honours list and history as impressive as theirs then you could make a comparison. The truth of the matter is that they've been far more successful than we have and as a result have more fans than us. Our history, for a city of our size, is pretty embarrassing really. Hopefully that'll begin to change.

Just spoke to a colleague who was up there last night, tickets were originally £10 for adults and £3 for U16's - but went up to £20 and £10 on the day When you have a fan base as large as theirs it's easy to see why they get these crowds in
Buckeyed
I was at the Newcastle match last night as I'm back up north visiting family.. The atmosphere was just not the same as being at the gate. I'm not sure if it was just because of it being a cup game and therefore not many regulars there, but there was no singing or passion from the crowd. Have to say though, they played awesome and it's easy to see why they are top of the table!
