one minutes applause on the 44th minute at Ashton Gate

Never to the dark side

With no disrespect to those who have departed this life, these "minutes applause" at almost every match is losing it's impact.

As someone of 73 and in sight of the finishing line myself, would not a recognition once a season, before maybe the last match of the season, be enough to acknowledge those City fans no longer alive.

It's a difficult one. With circa 20,000 fans attending and many others besides there are probably several fans every week passing away.

Applause before the last match of the season is a far better option. As you say, applause at nearly every match doesn't mean much to most people. (Although you're 73, I wouldn't say you're in sight of the finishing line unless you have a pair of binoculars. People regularly live well into their 90s now, so you've got a lot of suffering watching City to come)

Its the unfortunate effect of people wanting to get 'likes', 'retweets', etc when something terrible happens by posting some picture saying 'like to show respect'.

Was it Everton who had 3 different minutes of applause when Howard Kendall died?

You buggers better give me a minutes applause when I croak! :w00t:

We're planing to start singing about vomitiriums in your memory. I've also heard that Steve Lansdown is planning to name one of them in the South Stand the "Dolly Vomitirium" as a mark of respect

Completely agree, it's lost all impact and meaning, despite it being a well meaning gesture.

Dolly, as I am a 'little' older than you I will be at the Pearly Gates to welcome you and escort you to the little part of heaven reserved for City Supporters. Free Cider. Clarks Pies and re-runs of us beating the Gas for all Eternity. Heaven :innocent06:

What happens if you pass away at 96? We will have to be playing one of Colins teams in order to get enough injury time from the constant feigning injury and time wasting to fit a 96th minute applause in!! :chant6ez:

Make sure you die before a cup match with extra time

Big Tone might give you a the clap way before then...

(sorry)

Back on topic, I too feel that overuse of the minutes silence or applause diminishes its impact and intention... imho it should be reserved for particularly sad or unusual circumstances of death in the case of a tragic accident for instance a tragedy that the whole club and community has been touched by.  Or indeed the demise of an influential person within the club, maybe an official, player or as we sadly experienced recently the death of a club legend.

This is in no way disrespectful to Mr Bertwhistle RIP (condolences to loved ones) or any other fellow supporter that passes throughout the season... respects to all.

Just as we have a collective annual Remembrance Day for our war dead where everyone comes together to remember and pay respects and give thanks to all regardless of which day month year that the individual fell.... I agree with the idea of a Club Remembrance Day once a year where all fellow Reds who have passed during the season can be collectively remembered by all.

A very dignified a meaningful occasion once a season would be something very special, individually we would also be remembering friends and loved ones outside of football in a collective and personal beautiful moment of togetherness and respect.

Once again RIP Mr Bertwhistle and all fellow reds who may have departed recently.
