I am amazed nothing has been posted on here considering the achievement of the squad in this match, we had 5 U18's playing against a full Prem Academy !! and whilst they had patches of possession as you would expect the lads bopped it round the pitch and played excellent football to be worthy winners. There is some really good talent coming through which should benefit the first team in the very near future ...

It was really nice to see fast passing football and plenty of triangles instead of the big boot over the top into channels :)

Well Played Lads !! You deserve the plaudits after that game and result !!

I am surprised too Gary.

I know that there is a lot understandable concern about the state of the first team at the moment, but I think when that criticism is levelled at the club as a whole, it ignores what appears to be a lot of good work in the background that will help us build a sustainable future. If we do make a change at Head Coach level I hope that it is not done in a way that will see that baby thrown out with the bathwater.

The report from Swansea:

. . . the Swans lose out against City in their group match

A disappointing 4-0 defeat at home to Bristol City dented the Under-23s hopes of progressing to the last-16 in the Premier League Cup on Thursday.
Despite chances in front of goal the Swans found themselves a goal down at the break thanks to Opi Edwards opener.
Bristol doubled their lead with fifteen minutes to go before two late goals added to a frustrating afternoon for the Swans at Landore.
The result leaves the side third in Group A, with their final group game now a must win encounter against the Robins in two weeks time.

Gary Richards and Cameron Toshack made four changes to the side that beat Norwich at Landore in Premier League 2 on Monday.
Lewis Thomas came back into goal after helping the side to victory over Southampton last week. Meanwhile defender Joe Rodon recovered from a hamstring injury to return to the starting XI.
Midfielder's Jack Evans and Kenji Gorre were the sides only other changes as the Under-23s look for their third win in Group A.

SWANS U23s: Lewis Thomas, Connor Roberts, Aaron Lewis, Jack Evans, Keston Davies (Capt), Joe Rodon (Ryan Blair, 64), Daniel James, Adnan Maric, Jordan Garrick, Adam King, Kenji Gorre.
UNUSED SUBS: Mael Davies, Gregor Zabret (GK), Marco Dulca, Keiran Evans.

BRISTOL CITY U23s: Jojo Wollacott, Charlie Harris, George Nurse, Harvey Smith (Cameron Pring), Kodi Lyons-Foster, James Morton, Joe McNulty, Opi Edwards (Lloyd Kelly), Kel Akpobrie (Freddie Hinds), Jake Andrews, Jonny Smith.
SUBS: Dennis Begovic,Tom Richards.

Bristol City started brightly and could have taken the lead inside the opening two minutes as Swans goalkeeper Lewis Thomas denied a shot from winger Jonny Smith before a follow up effort from striker Kel Akpolbrie seconds later was punched clear.
At the other end Daniel James' through ball almost released Jordan Garrick before Robins keeper Jojo Wollacott collected before the Swans striker could pounce.
City did take the lead ten minutes in as a cross from left found midfielder Opi Edwards unmarked at the far post to smash into the roof of the net from two-yards.
Swansea battled in midfield as they looked to get back on level terms and had better chances in the first half as Kenji Gorre tested Wollacott with a shot from 25-yards before Garrick dispossessed Brisol's defender to race through on goal only to see his shot denied inside the area.
The home side continued to keep up the pressure on the Robins' defence as a searching corner from full-back Aaron Lewis found Joe Rodon in the box, however center-backs saw his powerful header tipped away by Wollacott once again.
City's keeper denied a shot from James later in the half, but Swansea could not find an equaliser before the break.

HALF TIME: Swans U23s 0 - 1 Bristol City U23s

Swansea battled to find a way back into the game in the opening stages of the second half as Bristol's defence limited their chances in front of goal.
Daniel James used his pace on the hour mark beat his man to the byline before firing a searching cross for Garrick in front of goal, only for the wingers' ball to be cut out by a last-ditch tackle from the Robins defence.
Moments later Lewis cut a ball back for Roberts, but the full-backs deflected shot from just outside the area was saved before Gorre had an effort from 25-yards also denied.
The young Swans continued to create chances in the final third, but Bristol City extended their lead when a free-kick from the right flank found its way past Thomas thanks to an unfortunate deflection.
Swansea hit the crossbar soon after as they looked to get something from the game, but City added a third inside the final ten minutes as substitute Freddie Hinds broke on the counter-attack to beat the defence and slot home from close range.
The Robins rounded off a disappointing afternoon to capitalise on a defensive error and net a fourth just before the final whistle.

The day we see anyone come through from the academy set up is the day hell will freeze over !

Was Zak Vyner not part of the Academy set up? Has Max O'Leary not had a first team appearance this season? Ring Lucifer, ask him if he is getting a cold snap warning?

You are not giving an opinion !! you are making a statement .......

I dont need to to show you any facts for an opinion, and you as a moderator should be extremely proud of demeaning your Team ... Well done... :)

Think you need to realise we MODERATE the site - we are all human and believe it or not are allowed our own opinions.

From the game at Swansea - which players will "benefit the first team in the very near future"

Over the past year the club are continually buying in "players for the future" - won't that block the progression of the younger players?

We're only category 2 level - won't our "better" players be snapped up?

Why @Garycpos?

Am I not entitled to my opinion on a forum?

Show me some facts to show me I am wrong?

Of course Phantom is entitled to an opinion, he is in fact one of my favourite posters, I don't have an issue with what he says, but there is evidence of players coming through. The club are making a concerted effort to play the lads in the age groups above as far as possible to aid their development which I applaud, but I think that he final step up into first team football is a lot harder to achieve and has to be handled carefully. I think players breaking through into any team at a very young age is hard to manage when a team is doing well, but is made harder when a side is struggling.

I can only base my thoughts on whether players will come through in future on what I have seen in the last couple of seasons and players have been given some chances and I think we might have seen more by now if we were comfortably mid table. I don't see any reason to suppose that we will not see more players coming through in the next two or three seasons.

Exactly this - but clearly someone has a connection to the academy and doesn't like any critique

That is not critique .... However, it is obvious that you think your statements are correct so lets leave it at that, I am sure many supporters can make their own minds up reading the thread.

I am not associated to the Club either, but purely posted a bit of "Good News" for a change ...

Bobby Reid first appearance was the 2010 season, and then he really broke through 2012 on wards

Bryan first 2011 season and then the same as Bobby.

It's nice to see, but lets be honest we have bought a lot of development team players recently suggesting that there is not total faith in the academy producing players good enough in the near future.

You mention the quality of the football Gary, it was away at Swansea. Did you go or are there highlights available? I had a quick look at our Youtube site, but couldn't see anything?

Well, we had three products of our youth set up starting on Wednesday and Fulham had one. I think a route is provided for those who can take it (and as with any career progression there is an element of luck involved in getting your chance)

@Garycpos interesting reports give me hope we may be seeing an even greater return on our academy in future.
