With grateful thanks to Dollymarie for allowing me to put this on the main forum, could you please just take a few minutes and look at the dilemma facing my daughter, who made the fatal mistake of marrying someone from another country.

https://www.generosity.com/fundraising/help-keep-our-family-together--5

Any donation you can make is greatly appreciated because as a father and grandfather, it breaks my heart to see my daughter lose weight and  find it difficult to focus on a day to day basis knowing that she could have her little family break up purely because of bureaucracy.

On a light hearted note, I have taken Carlos to AG for a couple of matches this season and he reckons we are great . Amazing the Ecuadorian sense of humour.

Thanks

Dave . Oldstandrobin.

Good luck, I will make a contribution

My wife is in a similar situation but luckily (touch wood) I earn enough to cover the arbitrary threshold

Very much appreciated. I will be doing a contribution myself as I don't want anyone to think we aren't going to assist. Caroline started a Just giving page then changed to this one so awaiting my contribution back to give it to this one !! Caroline is a TV producer but cant get a job at moment so is working for Pertemps on a less than threshold, but like City's plight we hope that will change as well.

Sad as it is these stipulations have been in place a long time. You have to be earning 18500 a years and I think an extra 2000 per child. Although this may be rising slightly

I wish your daughter and family all the best. But I know 2 friends who have been through the same. Unfortunately after wasting solicitor fees they had to return to their own country. One is now back as their other half worked their butt off got a promotion and changed job to get themselves just over the threshold.

Good luck I wish them well.

I guess there is no chance of him coming back on a skilled work visa.. or potentially your daughter going to live there to keep the family together.

All very Sad

You took him to AG? Cruel!

That is awkward. Most producers contract. And she will need to be in work for at least 6 months. There has to be something out there paying better than temp jobs with her skills.  That makes all the more frustrating :(

Once my daughter gets clearance for him to stay, she can realistically earn that sort of money, so it is a catch 22.

My wife and I dont want her to go to Ecuador as we want our grandson to be brought up here, sadly I want him as a mascot at AG in years to come, some things money cant buy :laughcont:

I think they would be better going to Ecuador.

You sound a very cruel grandad :)

Terrible situation for you, Carlos, your daughter, and Thomas.  Why is this world so cruel, why do the people who make these heinous decisions not have any compassion?

Surely a married man with a young son should be able to stay in the country.  Is there a local MP that can help?  Is there no legal aid available in such matters?

I read of so many situations like this, and each time, it serves as a harsh reminder of the grave flaws of humanity.

Hope it all works out, somehow, someway.

Apologies if I'm being simplistic

Nil nisi bonum de familia.

Put yourself in the OP's position; this is not a thread for debate.  Support or keep quiet are the two options in this matter.

Kev, Caroline used to live near us but sadly not much work down here and our local MP, James Heappey has been about as useless as a chocolate fire guard ! She has moved to Bristol and is now in Bristol West constituency where MP Thangam Debbonaire has been fantastic and they have a face to face on March 25th. Sadly no legal aid as why we have to fundraise. The one thing about supporting City is that we never give up hope !!!:laughcont:

My wife's cousin is married to a Korean woman and they've had to go through a similar process to get her over here. It's so arbitrary and cruel, you have my sympathy. Have you looked at the so-called 'Singh Route' to getting residency? If I remember, your daughter and her husband have to go and work full time in another EU nation where he could get a work visa for 6 months and then European law grants the non-EU citizen residency rights. Google it or consult a specialist solicitor about whether it would apply

On the 28th June, a few days after Brexit ,,,,,

someone did. Can I ask another question? Why is the collection in US Dollars if the case is being fought in the UK?

Because its an American platform which works in dollars. That is all.

Totally right. Nothing to do with Brexit. Be very very very very careful giving money guys.

She was just making a point about when it happened. It was never stated it was due to Brexit.

Come on guys, show some compassion.

Forums are for debate Eddie.

That was my first thought, terrible over reaction in treating someone who asks a reasonable question on a Forum. This is a political situation, not humanitarian, and this sort of appeal has no place on a football forum, however I sincerely wish the OP well in his fund raising.

I thought that this thread title was referring to the need to keep a family together in one of the stands given the recent hoo-hah about Season Card holders being forced out of their seats etc.

Surely, if anyone posts what is essentially a non-football related, crowd-funding thread on a Football Forum (and the moderators are foolish enough to let it stand), they have to expect 'opinions and debate'. Not everyone is going to be supportive of the original plea and they might well comment negatively.

Some people might think that if one chooses to marry a person from a South American country or any other far-distant place, the responsibility for investigating and understanding the rules regarding potential future UK residency falls fairly and squarely on the shoulders of the people directly involved and that it is not incumbent on the UK government to continually bend its laws to suit every plaintif with a hard-luck story, no matter how heart-rending a case it might be.

All sorts of bad things have happened to me and my family during my life-time, sunshine. I've just never chosen to whine about it all publicly or ask strangers for financial help in dealing with any of it (even though I could have done with such help).

My comment wasn't a pop at you and your family personally but more to point out that there is always another side to a debate!
