myol'man
Next up; The road to Wembley starts (and probably ends) on Friday night at the mighty Notts County. Now when the draw was made one of the few on asschat suggested that they would take between 2,000 and 3,000. Hmm, I seriously doubt that! Included in the Magpies squad will be our old legend Jon Stead and also probably one of the worst City players of all time, Nicky Hunt (how on earth is he still a professional footballer?) All together now "Stead, Stead will tear you apart, again"

SL can't own two football clubs can he? It's against FA regulations. So Jon will have to step up. Jon, buy out the Rovers. Bring Marcus home and Ellis and Bodin to play with Matty. Wind up/flog everyone else. Peg, my proposal was for Stephen Lansdown to consider funding a trust set up to purchase the Mem under the assets of community value scheme. As part of this deal Rovers would essentially become a fan owned club using the Bundesliga model and would lease the stadium from the Trust. The financial structure of "new Rovers" would mean we would not be a direct threat to City in spending terms but we would provide some competition, we would preserve a Bristol sporting institution and the Mem would be saved as a sporting venue and community asset. The alternative is for the Mem to be sold for commercial development and for Dwane Sports to potentially make a profit from their involvement with Rovers. The assets of community value scheme cannot prevent them selling the land to the highest bidder but imagine the pressure which Bristolians, in a united front, could exert on them to sell to the Trust for the £10 million they are owed and walk away. Rovers didn't give one f uck about the Mem being preserved when it thought they had a deal with Sainsbury's. I don't personally want competition in the city. Leeds and Newcastle seem to manage ok without it. City would gain nothing from helping you lot out Bert, and it does you no credit banging the drum on this subject on a forum that tolerates gasheads and actually welcomes you personally. 42nite
My feeling is that the only way SL would get involved would be to buy the Mem, kick the squatters out, burn the tents down, and build a nice little stadium for the Bristol rugger boys to return home. I see where you're coming from Bert but there's an option between the two put forward that seems more likely than the first: SL buys the Mem, kicks R*vers out and brings the rugby club home. Whether that is a cost worth paying when they're happy at AG and the running costs of the Mem may prevent that anyway.

So, where's the benefit to City then Bert? The only club to benefit from your plan is rovers as far as I can see. With all possible due respect, absolutely no way! Your club tried to kill us off in 1982 and some of us still remember that vividly. If there was a benefit to City it would be worth a debate but your plan essentially means our owner subsidising your club. No way is that going to happen.

Take ownership of the Mem, redevelop it into a state of the art, 20k all seater arena, with plenty of conference & hospitality provision to ensure that Rovers can become self sufficient, then just as he’s about to hand over the keys, pour petrol all over it and chuck a match on the lot. Just for a bit of a laugh..!
