Right, I bought a new car last September, because some ****T wrote off my previous car, I paid £1,700 for it, its a 2005 30th December registered Ford Focus 1.6 Petrol. Since then I've had to have the cambelt, water pump, fuel pump injection, a VVT pullley replacement and 2 sensors related to the VVT, resulting in an eye watering £1,400 in repairs. (before anyone says I should've checked cambelt history, I did, but the new VVT pulley results a new one as have to take the old one off) Its the special 1.6 petrol 115BHP engine rather than the standard 99bhp one.

Car still isnt right, if in 2nd or in 3rd, and I LET GO of the accelerator, the car is very very shuddery and jerky, it doesnt do this in 1st, 4th or 5th. I'm asking here because I do not wish to spend more money just to "find" the problem and was hoping to avoid that if any of you members know the what the problem is for free, those repairs I had done has ate all the money I had saved.

Thanks.

I am taking pity on you, because:-

A) I like your avatar;

B) No other bastard will help you.

Either get it fixed by a proper ford specialist (get a quote first), or get rid, as you are throwing good money after bad.

It does sound as though your car is f*****d good n'proper.

You won't thank me for saying it, but get a car professionally inspected before you buy it, as it can save you £thousands, so the £100 it costs is well worth it.

Next time steer clear of old Fords and Vaux', and anything French, and if you buy from the trade at least you should get at least 3-6 months warranty.

Best of luck, and "keep spanking!"

Totally agree - your just chucking good money after bad. What your describing could be anyone of numerous things - and you will;l be spending more money on it just to get the fault diagnosed.. When I buy a 'bike or car , I look at the owner more than the vehicle.

Digging into some of the Ford pages there are a couple of things that might be easy enough to try. Firstly, fill up with Super unleaded (98RON, not the usual 95); it may have a beneficial effect. Ford are pretty tight to the performance envelope and fuel is often critical. Secondly, it might just be the airflow sensor that has become a little dirty; a careful clean up may help.

The last comment could just be that the Ti-VVT engine needs a good kicking! Typical Ford - treat 'em rough...;)

Condensed version: "it's ******".

I had a 58 focus and mine was also very jerky occasionally, but it was on cold mornings though. A full service (at Ford) did seem to sort that problem. I have just traded it in though for a 64 reg focus though, as it was beginning to make a few noises from the engine. Took it to a local garage  (in Essex) and they said it could have been one of about 5 or 6 things, but as it was an intermittent problem and it wasnt a bad noise, he advised me to keep on running it until it became more of a consistent noise. Decided it just wasn't worth throwing anything at it.

If you can find a garage local to you (maybe a recommendation from someone on here more local than me?), explain the history of the car, what's happening, and say that you're worried about spending too much on it, they may be able to give you a rough idea about what it may be and what that would cost. They may just turn around and say they need to look it over, but there are some good ones out there that won't screw you over.

Alternatively, do you have breakdown cover? Depending on your policy, some will come out and have a look for you, and then at least that would give you another clue. If you have Ford Assist (breakdown cover through Ford - get it with my service foc), give them a call and they'll send someone out - usually the AA. That is how I got my original diagnosis for the problem I had with my old one.

FORD:

Fix Or Repair Daily,

or if you don't...

Found On Road, Dead.

I always say Fork Out, Repair Daily.

@CrazyInWeston Dunno if car is capable of making it up to Bristol or if you are in Bristol regularly enough but call Neil Scull on 01179089267. He runs the Ford Rapid Fit/Quicklane on Winterstoke Road, opposite AG. It's to the right hand side of the main Brunel Ford dealership. Neil's a good bloke and he looked after my mother's aging Mondeo for donkeys years.

Okay guys, thanks for all the replys :)  I'll try the Petrol first, no harm in that I suppose.

I hardly go to Bristol, but I do work in Portishead, short drive from there really isn't it. Thanks.

Don't waste petrol on that car.

Put the money towards a replacement vehicle and take the bus.

In London they have a very good high speed boat service on the Thames.

Does either Weston or Portishead have such a thing?

Admittedly Weston would need a very long pier - and they would have to maintain it for once ..............

I have checked this out and can confirm there is NO regular passenger boat service either between WSM and Portishead, or Portishead to WSM.

When the new metromayor gets in I am sure this will change within 25 years.
