Not going mad

It was an early game in the 89-90 play off season , evening game.  ( Possibly first home game ?)

As you say a worldly overhead from SuperBob 1-0

Loads of Bluenoses in Open End and a decent atmosphere

Edit

Just checked

26/08/89

Was first home game

Notice the crowd was 8938  - would have thought more - an extra 17-18000 for this fixture Sat

definitely a Saturday 3pm game v blues 89 taylor overhead kick

You normally accurate AA but reckon you're wrong in this one ;)

Gonna look it up :)

Edit

26 Aug 1989 Bristol City v Birmingham City W 1-0 League Division Three

Which was a Saturday

You right me wrong mate

Strange , would have put a few £££ on that !!!

Was our first home game tho - think they'd been relegated and were red hot favs to go straight back up

When you think we stuffed Cardiff 3-0 at their place and Swansea 5-0 at theirs you know what a good season it was !!! ;)

and us on that open terrace.... ripe for a "dodge the missile contest" after the game... as the usual pelting over the top of the Grangetown End seemed to continue without hindrance from The Heddlu.

Also seem to remember something really obscure happened outside The Vetch.... didn't a Police Dog get stabbed or do I have the wrong year? Apart from the 5-0 flattening, I remember driving up the M4 back to England.....and thinking "I'm catching that car quick". It took a moment to realise that a car from the Emerald Isle was reversing...down the middle lane.

Galley's 30 yard headed goal !

Also a night game at AG, Brum getting relegated, there couldn't have been more than 100 Blues fans in the open end !

Just found a post of yours from 2004 regarding a match I was at in 1971 away, when we lost 1 - 0 to a Latchford goal, when Dickie Rooks was being lectured by the ref. when they took a free kick.

If I recall it was early season and we were unbeaten at that stage.

Was a bit like the Carey incident at Wembley!

BTW - Galley is my all time favourite!

My first ever away game, I was 7, it's also the only game I can remember my mum coming to as well, before she became to ill. I remember walking into the ground through an entrance that was level with the top of the roof? I think the goal was scored at our end.

remember going up to st Andrews in the early 90's .got up late so hammered my little Nissan cherry up the motorways causing  it to overheat ,this meant missing most of the first half . cant remember to much abought the game but I think bob Taylor  got one .. after the  match I returned to my car only to find it parked up in the middle of the road getting some strange looks from blues fans . what had happened was on arriving late to the ground I looked for the closest place to park  found a corner of  a junction   and tucked my car in nicely however once all the other cars had gone what I thought was tucked in clearly was not I was parked in the middle of the junction . after picking up 2 friends I set off home , it was on the way though the traffic that it happened CRASH  windscreen gone . was it a  brick a bottle a bat no what had happened was the  truck in front  of me had mounted the curb and clipped a lamppost, this had shook the plastic leans cover off crashing it down on to my  car completely shattering the windscreen .

after cleaning up the glass I started to head home . once I got out of Birmingham and on  to the motorway I relaxed  a bit and that was when the cold hit . if I remember correctly it was January -3 and had been snowing add to that no windscreen  and traveling at 50mph ( could not go faster ) never have I felt so  cold . so  how do you cure  the boredom of  a 2 hr drive at -3 well you put your hands , arms , feet , legs ,ass, and head though what  would have been the windscreen and wave it at the passing cars how we did dent cause a accident I don't no but the looks we got will remain long I my memory  a lot longer than the match

I was invited through work to St Andrews for a Brum v City game about 7 or 8 years ago... we lost. After the game, we headed back to the corporate lounge for a few more free drinks. There was a quiz, which our table won, well all the questions were about Bristol City, so was a bit unfair to all the Birmingham fans in there.

The prize was a Birmingham City leather wallet... thanks. Then to my surprise, the winning table also got to present the man of the match award. I was duly nominated as I had got all the questions correct, so to my less than pleasant surprise, there was me, smiling through gritted teeth, handing over a bottle of bubbly and man of the match award to none other than Lee, I fight with my team mates, Bowyer.

I still feel dirty now!!!

I'm sure I remember Wayney scoring a magic hattrick once again Birmingham on an evening game? one of those rare games when everything Tanglefoot touched somehow turned to gold?

Been there away a few times, but only once on that old terrace of there's, a 1-0 win in 92 I think? It was the first game that Brady / Sullivan took over I think and they had a bumper crowd, while we had a huge following ourselves. Scorching hot day and electric atmosphere under that old roof. A few years later we played them on the last day of their kop. They'd already knocked down the away end and given us a limited ticket selection so me and my friends had to go into their end. City roared into a 2-0 lead and we got outed as city, just as it looked like we were going to get leathered Birmingham scored prompting a pitch invasion. We legged it onto their pitch escaping our admirers. Used to love our games with them, both home and away, always seemed to have a little extra spice.

I remember that 4-0 game at St Andrews. Loads there, icy terracing, great game! Parked my car by the wasteland. It had all kicked after the game (helicopter etc), and getting out, there was my car on its own, virtually all the City fans went in the opposite direction, whilst about four of us had to slope off to the motor, without getting filled in! Great times.

I traveled up with a few of the lads who were in that stand, they still talk of their shenanigans to this day, that was one of the great and memorable away days from arriving at new street at 10:00, the threatening walk to Small Heath, the fantastic performance and eventful escorted walk back to the nearest station for our "special" without doubt the most memorable season in my time for away games, Cardiff, Swansea and a crazy day at Bolton spring to mind!!!

Bolton was mad, 250+ of us met at services on M5 at 8-30am. In Bolton at 12'ish.

Found this massive pub with a 350 degree walk around bar 10 minutes walk from Burnden Park. Big singsong, then suddenly a group of Bolton fans turnup from the neighbouring pub waiting outside. Drop ciders, massive decamp from pub to outside. Massive ruck outside (fair play to Bolton as they were up for it). But we had massive numbers that day. The Bolton fans that got trapped, got a bit of a hiding.

We lost 1-0 that day, mate had his foot stood on by OB horse post mstch. Chaos outdide again. Crazy day when away games were such fun!

I definately rememeber him racing from the half-way line enclosure side with the ball toward the park end, cutting inside and smashing the ball high into the net. Maybe the same game.

could well be - he didn't score many blinders, they usually bounced off his arse! I do remember him scoring a wonder goal against Plymouth and all where he looked as surprised as everyone else when he chipped the keeper from 25 yards. It's so bloody hard finding footage of city in the 90s so there's a real risk of false memories clouding my head though!

Went to St Andrews in 94, Barry Fry was their manager back then. We drew 2-2 and sent them down,

We were 2-0 up after about 20 minutes, Scott Partridge scored both on his debut. I remember the PA guy announced him as the goalscorer and I'd never heard of him! Louie Donowa (legend) scored the equaliser but they still got relegated!

We were sat in the home end as we went with the junior reds so we got some dodgy looks when celebrating the goals. Think we were still sat there at 6pm as after the game their fans invaded the pitch... it was the last game there before they built their new stands. They were climbing up the floodlight pylons, ripping the pitch up for souvenirs.

Let's send them down again!

I didn't realise we'd be on the side, far away from the (closed) away end and even farther away from the coaches. After witnessing a few of them kicking off with the stewards about 10 minutes in, and since I was wearing a city top only, I decided to leg it back to the coaches parked up the hill dead on the final whistle. I think I beat the driver back, and I remember @Dave laughing at me when he got back.

Went to Brum 1971 as a 16 year old, though I thought it was later. Came out of New St all bravado and chased a few off, only to be chased back up some steps (close to the IRA bombed pub) with bottles whistling past my head and landing all around. Went up on the large side enclosure, where a coach load from the "west" were throwing brummies down the terrace and we were having a kick as they passed. Later went into the away end and decided to leave just before the end to get away from the hoards of brummies gathering by the side gate. As we walked down the road they opened the gates and there ensued a chase. I ended up in a bookies until they'd passed and made my way back to New St where they were waiting at the entrance. Had to make a run and jump over the turnstiles to get into the station concourse. Bravely gathered ammo from the café and aimed some in their direction. I vaguely remember a chap called Yeo Pickering? giving out a bit to some that got a bit too close. Not too proud of running but I was quite new to the game.

Yeah remember that. Wasn't it Terry Cooper who was Birmingham manager, his first return to Ashton Gate?

very possible - though I think that might have been another 3-0 against them right at the start of the 90s?? we played them quite regularly during the 90s. Always used to enjoy those fixtures, and would rather we didn't relegate them today. I think we have more in common with them than some would like to think!

My first ever away trip was to St. Andrews approx 76-78 travelled up with cats on a grey bleak day with mainly o a p s armed with flasks , rattles and transistor radios etc apart from that about 50 young lads and maybe 100 of us altogether  on arrival in the mainly open away end we noticed this small group of brum fans (10 or 15 )some dressed in butchers coats (post milwall documentary)  glaring at us ,so  after are first song they duly attacked us -remember thinking at the time they were like lions attacking a herd  of wilder beasts and picking off the weakest on the fringes of our huddle ,this continued most of the first half all to the amusement of West Midlands finest who done nothing . Really can't remember any of the match but what I do remember was my relief as about 200 city turned up and after a few helpful pointers from us they all ran down the terrace and said hello to are attackers ,I remember some of them trying to climb the railings on to the pitch and I think one even got thrown over them on to it .athough I can't put my finger on exact date the thing that probably does date it was all the city lads had long fringes, pegs moccasins and canvas belts  we used to call em kitters or kit lads  .... Anyhow I was young and it was terrifying and brilliant in equal measures and the longest half of.a Match I didn't watch .

Great game , hair sunny day and goals galore

Think your username made his debut

As an aside - did you realise Louis Donowa played for Willem II ( Surely the only player to have represented both clubs ?)

If I am correct you had Samuel Armenteros on trial earlier this year, who has played for Willem II too.

I went up to St Andrews in the 60s with my mum.  Some Brummies told us to stand on newspaper to keep our feet warm.  A huge bank of terracing along one side of the pitch.  Think I was about 10 years old.  After the game, so Brum kid started to kick off but my mother soon sorted him out - she was an east End (London) evacuee ... Happy days but a bleak place ... Think we won ... Mum is still alive but sadly in a nursing home in Melksham and - sadly - still supports the Iron.

Travelling in my youth  in the 70s with cats to brum,West Brom and Coventry was always bleak and a nice little eye opener to how lucky we were here in Bristol ,Was also struck by the hugeness of the terracing on one side of the pitch .

Sorry mate, that's not correct. They went on a half decent run after they played us. It was a draw against Bolton that sent them down in the penultimate game of the season. Before that they were 21st and safe but needed to win the final two to be sure. They ended up going down in 22nd on goal difference.
