When did football become this complicated !!!!

Doesnt a balance sheet and a league table do the same job !!

Not really. A league table and a balance sheet tell you what the situation is in the present, based upon a summary of the recent and relevant past.

These stats take the past, analyse it, and use that analysis to try to explain the state of the present and sometimes to predict the future.

PS. Hopefully E361 does a "points lost from winning positions" chart.  He did one for L1...I suspect we may be near the top of that particular little table.

@RichardEdd Interesting, I didn't realise transkermarkt tracked this stuff.  So we lost 4 times out of 23 leads (joint 3rd worst).  Plus we only gained 17 points back after going behind (4th worst).  I suspect these stats are skewed by a few late losses and draws.  However, it does show that we were proved fragile throughout the season.  E361 plays around with this sort of stuff so it'll be interesting to see if he does something.

@RichardEdd @View from the Dolman - sorry if you guys aren't interested - but E361 delivered.  Below are his tables for points won from winning positions and points won from losing positions.  Long story short: we were pretty crap at closing games out, but actually weren't that bad at salvaging something from a losing position.

Taking only 71% of the possible points from winning positions put us in the bottom third of that table.  Successful teams are looking at 80% plus (although note QPR and Wolves being outliers in that).

Anyway, interesting tables that contextualise the raw data that @RichardEdd found on transfermarkt.
