Officially that's why the kick off was delayed.

Wasn't absolutely sure I'd have a job when I got back. I was in college on weekly release from work and didn't particularly get on with the lecturer , conversation went something like...

ME; "I won't be back after break, I have a dental appointment"
Him; " I know where you're going, football isn't it. You can't go"
ME; " Watch me, check my seat to see if I'm there after break"

Luckily I didn't get in trouble . Brilliant night, got there as they kicked off, couldn't believe their end . Must have been 50/50 City and Con. The Motorway on the way back was a virtual carpark, absolutely rammed. Best away game  (without a beer) ever.

ever ever! Only question is which has been the 2nd best away game ever?

Leeds in FA Cup, Mansfield 3-4, Bradford 0-1, Bradford 0-6, thoughts?

Liverpool 0-1 Florist 1-1 I was always partial to gas1-2 (Hirst....Mayhem)

That will teach you to leave before the end. We scored another 2 at Mansfield!

Both good, but wrong ..... and the answer is ... Chester in the old div 4. Fantastic day out . Lads holding the fencing up so the OB would know the supports had been undone, TC up on someones shoulders in the stand and nearly falling off ! 2-1 and promoted after all that had gone before, and the fact that there were more City than Chester, just brilliant.

I certainly remember the crush. I had a row with a copper as my girlfriend was in danger of being trampled by a police horse. I was nearly the original horse puncher.

Pretty sure Mansfield away finshed 5-4 to us....Liverpool away in FA Cup 0-1, Stockport away in FA Cup 0-4, Florest away in Littlewoods Cup 1-1....Swansea away 0-5...could go on but won't!

West Brom before promotion night game won 1-0 god knows how

Crikey, yes, we got battered but Gerry Sweeney nicked a goal. I saw him before the next home game and shook his hand. I have a feeling he won player of the month too. Well deserved for a good pro and a lovely man.

Remember that night very well, took the day off from work and caught the football special from Temple Meads, absolute bedlam that night

There were actually two specials that day,we were on the first and were escorted to the ground at a snails pace so that the second train load could catch up with us, when we arrived on masse it was bedlam, and a good part of the decision to delay kick off.

That has to be the second best game of my life, the best being promorion night against Pompey.

5 of us left work early and crammed into my clapped out old Mini and drove up to Coventry.  I remember being worried about a kid asking me if he could mind my car (did'nt usually go to away games by car).

Held up in traffic and got to the top of the terrace just as the game kicked off 15 mins late.

We were hammered in the first half and definitely thought we were going down, but Coventey threw the game in the second half as Dicksy and Sillet were very friendly with them.

A draw was fine and both City and Coventry stayed up provided that Sunderland lost.  The scoreboard flashed up that Sunderland had lost 1-0 and we began celebrating until it flashed up again with Sunderland score correction.  Our hearts were in our mouths until it then said that Sunderland had lost 2-0.

Drove home with a bottle of cider in my hand (below the limit of course).

A good friend of mine was a Sunderland supporter and they never forgave us for fixing that game.

What a night that was.
