Don't think they are anything like the 80s mob and live off their reputation. No different to any others now. I was at the old Den the day our nutters from Knowle West had a right old ding dong with them and it was an eye opener that day as I was only 14 at the time but always remember travelling down the Old Kent Rd and the coaches behind being pelted with glasses as the Millwall fans piled out of their local boozers. Turned up at the ground and daubed on the back of the stand in big red letters "City Kill Millwall", this pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day. We drew 1-1 in a game we should have won and after the game most of the coaches were lacking quite a few windows. The coach journey out of London was just as eventful!!

That was the only time I`ve had trouble down there TBH but it was pretty tasty! Didn`t it have something to do with the boxing previously where Nicky Wiltshere had fought at Bethnal Green and it kicked off between City and Millwall at that? I thought that`s when the graffiti got done too - didn`t realise it was on the day.

Quite a day, that incident with a Millwall coach near the Pump House too.

This incident was witnessed by a certain Mr Iran Berkeley, who was in Bristol that day. Mr B quite fancied getting out the car to spark out a couple of English hooligans, but was dissuaded by the cars other occupants!

In a way, I'm pleased Millwall won, but for completely selfish reasons - they looked second best to Bradford, and their key players are mainly ageing journeymen or young lads completely untested at this level.  Might end up a good blend, but I'd suggest they'll need a fair bit of solid recruitment to push on next year.

They've really been pulled through to this promotion by Morison too; three assists and three goals in their last four games - final day to playoff final.  They'll have to hope he can raise his game again to Championship standard, as they'll be needing a seriously decent replacement otherwise.

That Friday night game at our place a few years back was eventful. They were kept in afterwards and attempted to return the East End back to a terrace by removing the seats and chucking them out of the back of the stand.

Remember that game; was Lee Matthew's debut and I was sitting in the Atyeo - remember watching him score a penalty and the Millwall fans going mental - several red cards and an on-pitch punch up; never felt we bowed to Millwall's bully-boy tactics, just gave it back to them.

Bit of an over-reaction there if you don't mind me saying...they are a very passionate fanbase who have had the 'us against the world' ethos very successfully and firmly embedded into their community and identity.

I know a fair few Millwall fans, and the ones I know are just proper, passionate, committed, nice guys who love their club to bits. They smile at, and still like, their reputation but don't play up to it in any way like they used to back in the day.

You won't find them filming 'corners' on their phones at games, you won't find them politely applauding when they score a goal and you won't find many people wearing premier league club shirts in Bermondsey. It's a proper community club, totally immersed in their locality.

I don't think they are an "absolute disgrace to their club and football on the whole"

Every club has passionate fans. Don't recall the last time I seen any of them invade the pitch at Wembley?

Neil Harris and Sean Dyche sent off for them, Beadle for us IIRC.

This is odd.  In the early rounds of the FA Cup on the BBC, when non league fans invade the pitch having beaten league opposition, their behaviour is condoned as being exuberance.  But when it happens at Wembley ... and it just happens to be Millwall ... OMG.  And, of course, we have never had a pitch invasion at Ashton Gate have we??

There's a difference between running onto the pitch and celebrating with your own team and fans as a genuine moment of 'passion' and 'exuberance'.

It's another to run into the pitch to aggressively confront the opposition players, fans and manager.

Really? That seems to negate the reason for moving S82 out of the Atyeo then doesn't it Noggers?

I genuinely didn't know that.

City already gave more than the required away allocation last season, so yes, the club are choosing to make the whole Atyeo available for away fans next season, rather than having to.

S82 could have remained there, even been expanded by knocking off the extra 700 away tickets we already give.

That doesn't mean they'll actually give more tickets now it's away only though, it may be just to keep them away from the front, easier segregation, ease of fans leaving the ground etc.

If the club give Millwall a bigger than necessary allocation (2k) they're bonkers.

Didn't Thorpe go too?  Have images of him and Beadle going wild when Matthews scored at the end, as they'd cheekily snuck back basically pitch side from the tunnel.

Was as bad tempered as I've seen a game live, and I've seen some bad tempered game.  Also thought we'd bought a cracker in Matthews after that night; shame that was very much a false dawn.

He could have, I definitely remember the other three.

It was the first game I took my 11 year old nephew to and he loved it - he`s had a season ticket ever since as a result of that game!

Invading your own pitch in celebration is one thing. To do it at an away ground or neutral venue is completely classless.

But this is Millwall so par for the course.

Loved seeing their match winner telling Sky what idiots they were. Fair play to him.

The only time I went to Millwall was in 2007 when we could have sealed promotion with a win. I just remember looking over at the group of fans congregated either side of us and feeling sorry for them. They seemed to barely have a single brain cell between them. If people want to call spending 90 minutes goading and making cut throat gestures to opposition fans "passion" then thats up to them but for me its more the sort of behaviour I'd expect in a zoo.

I thoroughly enjoyed invading the pitch in celebration at Highfield Road and Sealand Road.

Great days!

Without looking back I think the original posts refer to them invading a new Wembley pitch, it's not the norm, hard to get past the security and barriers

However, I would say on a ratio of pleasant fans and bad fans the ratio would be higher towards the bad, that's why they keep that reputation

Don't see a problem with them going on the pitch personally, I like to see passion. English football crowds have become totally sanitised over the last 10-15 years.

They came on, ran around a bit and all went back off, no one got hurt, end of story.

That's not what Yahoo is reporting, the Bradford manager and some of their players were abused.   https://uk.yahoo.com/sports/news/morison-slams-millwall-pitch-invaders-ruined-big-wembley-moment-175703289.html

Weirdly, the 0-0 at the new den a few years ago was very different to what I was expecting.

Thought it was supposed to be very hostile etc. but actually a really nice ground, decent playing surface too. Look forward to going back there.

Went there when we won by two-both from "the goat"..

Crazy, mad mad day...not sure I'd cope so well now 'in me dotage!!

Liverpool and Everton fans did in 1989

Ok then only nearly 30 years ago!

Guess if we were looking at it positively you could say a pitch invasion and confronting/gloating the Bradford players is a step in the right direction from last time they were at Wembley fighting amongst themselves in the stands!

Is that the CATS coach that was deliberately detoured in sarf laandaan?

From memory we stopped at the services, Reading I think, as we were too early. Just after leaving we joined the motorway to find huge tailbacks due to an accident. We got seperated from the rest of the coaches, most didn't actually stop anyway.

Apparently we were due to meet up with the a police for an escort, but as we were late they didn't wait. Unfortunately the driver or nobody else on the coach knew where the ground was, the driver was totally relying on the Police escort it seems. This was before sat nav's and Internet, but i do remember having a mobile phone as I was chatting to someone I knew on another coach who was in the ground.

We just drove around getting more and more lost. The steward then found a police woman and asked her the way and she was horrified we were driving around 'on our own' and we should have had an escort. The match had kicked off by then but she insisted we wait for an escort which of course seemed to take forever to arrive as all the Police were at the match.

Eventually we arrived there, after being driven past some rough pubs, the locals all drinking outside ( during the match), made it clear we weren't liked as being away fans. The coach pulled up outside, not where it should have and we all jumped off, didn't think we wouldn't know where it was after the game. The second half was just kicking off, it was chaos as a coach load of us arrived just when most people in a packed away end were returning to their seats.  There were a few disagreements as these people came back send found us late arrivals in their seats!

And to top it all when we got the ground we had to go through the turnstiles one by one, think only one gate was open, which they had to find someone to operate, and then they tried insisting an a full body pat down and bag search etc, I think my words were 'you got to be fricking kidding', only more forceful than that!!!

Anyway I think we lost the match as a load of 14 yr old chavs climbed over their netting to goad us, I remember that.

Verbally abused.....same as City fans do to away teams and officials at most home games.....verbal abuse, a part of football...

If it was so joyful and friendly why was the manager and players so furious with them being on the pitch, thankfully it petered out but it could have got nasty.

And as for verbal abuse yes players do hear it, but the fans are in the stands not on the pitch within striking distance, I'd say that was quite a different situation.

Will be a better atmosphere with Millwall at AG

Need a few games a season like this to mix it up a bit

The same Millwall that can barely get anyone to turn up at their own place?

I've never been impressed with the noise they don't make.
