On a more serious note, we are very good at producing decent premier league strikers but none seem to kick on on the international stage.

Cole

Phillips

Fowler

Ferdinand

Collymore

Sutton

Dublin

Tbf a few of them were only kept out by Shearer / Beardsley /  Sherringham / Owen

not necessarily because they couldn't cut it

If Lewandowski had played in England with Kane's scoring record over the last two years, he would be hailed as the best in the world. Why not Kane?

Although I don't think he's quite there, he's starting to make a case.

Mainly because he's 'unspectacular' scores a lots of decent goals but not the sort to leave four defenders on their backsides before netting

Doesnt catch the eye/ 'pleasing' to the eye,  in the way some do , and IMHO you have to look at him closely to work out why he's so successful

Takes a lot of his shots early , before the keeper is set , is one

Tbf to the lad he's more than a goalscorere and works for the team too

The other thing I like about his finishing is that he rarely leathers the ball. It's all about accuracy and placement.

Good point , they were discussing him the other day and one of the pundits, may have been Shearer made that very point , said it was uncanny how many of his goals go in just inside the post or in the corners a, and then pointed out it wasn't coincidence but a skill he's worked extremely hard on

Yes, he wrong footed Schmeichel twice the other night with shots that looked easy to save. He never had a sniff.

Just had a look out of interest - For Cole and Fowler I've only included their peak periods as their career s dived thereafter (Cole Newcastle & Man U , and Fowler only Liverpool)

Kane 78 goals in 113 appearances. Goal per 1.44 games

(Not sure that's up to date and may be better than that)

Shearer 283 goals in 559 appearances. Goal per 1.97 games

Andy Cole 138 goals in 265 appearances. Goal per 1.92 games

Robbie Fowler 129 goals in 226 appearances Goal per 1.75 games

Sort of speaks for itself really

Think they were a classic combination of what we've said - early strike before keeper set and accurate to boot

Cant knock his goalscoring achievements but dont forget he was total toilet in the Euros. Having spent a lot of money travelling around just to see him overhit corner after freekick is not easily forgotten.

Come back with the question in 13 months after another Champs League campaign and of course the World Cup.

No. Put him up against European opposition and he's nothing special.

2 goals in 3 champions league appearances.

10 goals in 31 Europa League appearances, a fair proportion of which were from the bench.

5 in 17 for England for so far (and no, they weren't all against San Marino).

Not the worst record in the world! And yes I know he was disappointing in the Euros last summer, but Lewandowski didn't exactly set the tournament alight either.
