good move for Everton and Pickford himself but does 30 million not seem a bit high for a as yet still developing keeper.

I guess that's the price for young talented English players (with the threat of Brexit & the likely need for clubs to have a certain % of English / British players.

There is no doubting he has ability & Everton have spent many seasons with goalkeepers who are towards the ends of their careers, so having someone who could be in the position for 10 years or so doesn't seem to be that bad a financial deal (assuming you can afford it in the first place).

While the fee is very big if he can fulfil his potential Everton have just filled a position for the next 10 years and can hold out for more if a bigger team comes in for him.

Still an obscene amount of money .

The problem is then that this becomes the benchmark perverting the transfer market even more and effectively closing the door on any club outside of the Prem.

It also makes England players believe they're own hype that they're something special on the global stage just because a fool and their money were soon parted.....

There are keepers all over Europe as good or better than Pickford who would have cost a third of that.

Pickford didn't pay it.

Nothing to suggest he valued himself that highly or that the fee would affect him personally.

Almost 15 years of service if he stays for his career. Would still be able to be sold on any time in the next 10 years, probably for more than £30m.

Great business for Everton. Great bit of dollar for Sunderland to start building a Championship side.

Agree with the majority of your post wholeheartedly....but as to the last bit....I think their parachute payments would've fulfilled this bit nicely enough already without the Pickford fee!

Yeah wasn't a dig at him personally just the general trend with overhyped, overpriced English players.

Everton are at a crucial stage of development. They are not quite good enough to join the top 6 and battle for a Champions League place or the title but they are far better than the midfield pack such as West Brom, Stoke and Southampton.

If they want to be in the fight for the top 4 these are the sort of prices you would expect them to be paying for top players.

This guy was astonishingly good on loan for us.

For the 5 months he was with us, he pretty much single-handedly kept us out of the relegation zone whilst the rest of the team was still adjusting on return to the Championship.

Destined to be England number 1 very soon, especially with Hart seemingly on the decline.
