Makes it even more infuriating he can't get a chance here.

It's a major problem in our game imo. They do really well up to under 21 level but then hardly get a chance at club level. Managers buy ready made foreign players instead of giving the young English players a chance. If Tammy had stayed at Chelsea last season in the u23's he wouldn't of been anywhere near the squad. Give the kids a chance , won't know how good they'll be otherwise

Completely agree, Baker could get in at least half the prem sides I imagine. 22 yr old Chalobah has also had a v.good tournament so far yet Chelsea reportedly want to fork out 32m for 23 yr old Bakayoko!! Madness.

Makes me have a bit of a soft spot for the likes of Southampton who do manage their academy players well and give them the chances to impress.

Chelsea are the worst case for this. Over 40 players out on loan and probably 35 of them will never make the first team. All it seems to do make money for the club whilst not really caring for the players future. Tammy is a different case as they probably know he'll make it but Todd Kane is a prime example of players getting lost in the system.

We played pretty well tonight, we look good in midfield and solid at the back. Impressed with Mawson, Chilwell, Chabolah and Ward Prowse.

If we can find a system to get the best out of Tammy we could be a handful for any team in this comp. I think a 4,3,3 with same back four, a midfield 3 of Ward Prowse, Chabolah and Baker with Gray and Redmond either side of Tammy would suit us.

I wonder if the FA would have the authority to step in and try and change things (would they want to?), hugely frustrating seeing the talent at youth level not given the chance, perhaps we need an initiative to get them game time at their parent clubs (and to stop clubs hoarding them as you say).

Totally agree , perhaps a cap at each age group on the squad size. The bigger clubs do seem to hoard players to stop other clubs getting their hands on them. The new ruling about cat A  swooping on cat B and C taking their best payers for a pittance doesn't help.

They need to bring back the England B team.

Apparently it was scrapped for financial reasons, but it gave fringe players international experience either against second string inters, or against good club sides.

Pretty sure David James also advocated the idea from a keepers perspective, that you might play u20 and u21 football internationally but it could be 5 or 6 years after that before the full team come calling.

If they made the B team transient for home games it would also generate local interest.

Perhaps it could be obligatory that the player bought for pittance could go back at whatever age if he's only been loaned out or hasn't played enough first team minutes for his club. For example, if John Smith got taken from us and went to Man U, if he had less than 10 first team appearances or only been loaned out further down the league at age 20, the club who lost him for pittance could get him back for the same price, with Man U having to pay any wage difference - as if they'd agree to that! Easier said than done to find a solution the super powers will agree to!

The FA just seem to change the rules to suit the big clubs and bugger the smaller clubs and players future welfare . Think i need to read Michael Calvins book , no hunger in paradise. Getting off topic really but the bottom line is these young lads have to play regular high standard football at a young age or the wait for another world will go on for another 50 years

Agreed mate.

On Michael Calvin, have you read his other two books in the set? Currently on the second called 'Living on the Volcano' highly recommend if you haven't read any of them
