Fair enough. Thought you might've heard something. I just don't think he's up to it. The loan spell at Torquay wasn't great, and he was unlucky due to Kieffer Moore, but still quite a way off this standard.

By all accounts he was a huge success at Bath City, but, as you say, apparently less successful at Torquay.

Perhaps, that word again , Championship is a level too high, resulting in his frustration during the friendly.

Think McCoulsky is currently recovering from a knock, but you can probably add Garita to the going out on loan list as well.

I've posted this several times but I'm amazed that people seriously think McCoulsky is anywhere near to the first team, he has never scored a goal about Conference South level, couldn't get a game on loan at Torquay last year and I was told by a Bath ST holder I know that his general game was woeful.

He needs to get a run at Conference level at this stage in his career, I think.

I see no reason for that. It wouldn't affect our first team budgets in any way and would make us less of an all round set up generally.

I honestly think Hinds is more likely to feature with the first team squad this season. Especially if our strikers aren't fit come the Plymouth game.

I think the defence looks better than last season.

But very light on quality strikers IMO.  If the mighty Diedhiou gets crocked can't see where the goals are coming from.  Hardly prolific any of them

I know it was "only Yeovil" and a bunch of trialists, but he did look good enough at Huish Park.

27 players on training camp,   7  relatively untried youngsters, 3 keepers, 2 injured players at least - I imagine a lot of the younger players are out there because our squad at the moment is really, really thin so just making up the numbers. I really hope we have some more signings lined up (and hope to god that Bryan, Flint, Brownhill, O'Neil are not leaving as we could be in serious trouble if they do).

I'm confused as to why Fielding is listed as a GK. After watching this, he's ahead of Famara as a lone striker in my opinion,

Interesting to see that there is no sign of  De Girolamo, McCoulsky, looks like another season on loan for these guys.  Also interesting to see Freddie Hinds has made the cut, he seems to have had a lot of playing time through pre-season.

 

 

I'm surprised the two names in bold are in the squad as they are supposed to be injured and it would be more useful to have De Girolamo/Mclousky in the squad. I'd have thought Taylor is back training but does anyone know if Đuric is?

If nothing else, good for team bonding.

Both the two young'uns mentioned gave been quoted as injured at some point through pre-season.  Expecting both to go on loan though, together with Garita.

Surprising how many it takes to run a squad of players isn't it. Manager, 2 assistants, physios, specialist coaches, kit man. Then you got the media team, all adds up doesn't it. Mind you almost just as many go to every away game, hotels have to be paid for and they don't stay in rubbish places. Expensive things, football teams...and this is only at Championship level!

I would also assume / hope that they are doing work on pattern of play etc in which case important that Duroc and Taylor are there if only to watch

And as Dave said - ideal for bonding (In theory !)

Anyone else think there is to much messing about on this trip? All I see is social gatherings, stupid quizzes and beach volleyball. Thought preseason should be hard work

Not at all. You see social gatherings and quizzes because that's what they want you to see. Working hard in training in that heat takes much more out of you than our weather. It's also about getting the new and young players settled in and forming relationships. They probably release maximum 1hr-1:30 min of footage a day, mostly when players are winding down so that's when they do these social things. Don't think they aren't working hard the rest of the day.

Think they will have done their initial stamina work

Lots of ball work and , pattern of play work etc , and as vital , team bonding , the purpose I'd suggest

Havnt watched all the videos but I've seen bits right across the spectrum in fairness

Dont underestimate team spirit / bonding - massive factor in a sides performance over a season

Yep. The Botswana trip under Cotts was widely acknowledged as a major reason for our success that season as it allowed them all to bond.

It's all part of it, they can only work for so long in those temperatures, so the down time is just as important, building team spirit and all that. As I said elsewhere, with the off season regimes the players get given these days, I am sure they rarely come back needing to hammered through a pre-season workout like the old days. It's rare for players to come back completely out of condition, thats why Johnson was so annoyed at Adam Matthews I think.

And Cotts with JET. I think when LT returned last season after the summer it was similar and was perhaps the beginning of the `trouble`?
