Birmingham Away - Coach or Train?

I am going to be travelling up to Birmingham on 12th August, however it'll be my first time going to St Andrew's so I'm looking for some advice.

I need to decide whether to travel up on the coach or on the train. I think I'd rather go on the train but I don't have a clue where I'd have to change. There's another post on this forum about getting the train up there I know, but it wasn't clear to me where I have to change as a few railway stations in Birmingham are mentioned.

Can anyone who's going up on the train tell me what time train you're thinking of getting from Bristol and then where to change etc please? Might help me decide. Thanks!

Last time I went there on a CATS coach it was a nightmare - took a long time to get there, had to wait ages for a police escort and barely had time for a pint in the ground before kick off. If I was going this year it would be train or National Express coach for me.
