All this football hooligans @Robbored and you go and do this

A county bowls final was abandoned after an argument erupted when a player appeared to headbutt an opponent, who fell and broke a finger.

The Hampshire County Men's Final between Southsea Waverley and Boscombe Cliff was held in Southampton on Sunday.

A Boscombe player squared up to an opponent after a dispute over "bowls etiquette", reports the Bournemouth Echo.

Other Boscombe players then conceded.

It meant Waverley retained the men's county champions title.

Waverley secretary Peter Aldridge said both clubs were "mortified by the behaviour".

'Not acceptable'

He said he had been told by members who were present that the player, in his 30s, was hurt after the argument blew up during the final and a headbutt was attempted.

Mr Aldridge said: "Bowls has changed over the years - people do get excited but this was not acceptable.

"It doesn't represent the attitude of Boscombe Cliff and is not representative of the game."

Boscombe Cliff Bowls Club has declined to comment.

The sport's governing body in the county, Bowls Hampshire, said an investigation was underway.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said it had not been reported to police.

In all my years of bowling I've only seen one episode of aggressive behaviour when a bloke told his opposite number to "hurry the flip* up" when the opposite player was being slow on the mat......

The other guy lost it and stormed down the rink and grabbed the bloke by the collar and threatened to "knock him out" and the verbals kicked off big time,

Looking back it was quite funny but shocking at the time. The bloke who started it was subsequently summoned to a disciplinary hearing but resigned before it was held

You do hear some very cutting jibes at times.........:shocking:

That's what happens, when they sanitise one sport (football) it just pops up again in another.

There are quite a number of younger bowlers who we come up against from time to time and these guys get very carried away when they play a decent shot with tapping fingers or high fives.

Some older players take a dim view of these antics butbon one occasion these older players became  irritated with high fives and decided they should start doing it themselves, essentially as as a piss take and so they did. It was odd to see 50+ year olds doing the high fives...........:shocking:

The opposition stopped it as soon as they realised it was a piss take......

It'll be coloured smoke next... all the OAPs will be drinking gin during play and then one 80 year old 'top boy' will let off the canister...

A disgrace.

How long before we hear of widespread hijackings within the game of bowls... its a potential balls up waiting to happen, end of.
