Potential Bristol City podcast.

Following on from @Phileas Fogg on another thread, I'd thought I'd have a look at a few things.

Firstly, what is required to make the podcast, the mixer, microphone, etc. (Currently still looking at this, and the cost of buying what is needed to get started)

Secondly, how much of an audience there would be. It does strike me as a little odd that for a fan base that is so active online that we do not have a podcast.

Finally, and most importantly, people that would be interested in either hosting it (I have said I am willing have a try if no one else is going to have a go) or being a part of it as a guest.

Either USB mic or even you can just use your phone to begin with. If you're on iOS there's an app called 'WavePad' which is a decent microphone app with ability to edit the audio.

If it were me, I'd record the audio into (preferably) Adobe Audition, but if not - Audacity is easy to use and free. You can import audio from apps like WavePad into Audacity fairly easily.

You would need a platform to upload it onto. Mixcloud might be the easiest place to upload it to begin with.

I think when it's up and running there'd be a few hundred listeners each time.

I got an android phone, and an iPad, laptop not working right now, but looking to get it fixed.

The drama group I do tech with uses audacity, so I have a little experience working on there, though I am more a lighting guy than sound.

It's very easy to operate. Pretty self explanatory but there's an inbuilt manual and loads of YouTube guides.

There should be a similar app to WavePad available for Android. A USB mic would be better of course.

Do you have access to another laptop or PC?

I think we’d have loads of people interested. Don’t want too many voices at a time though, could always rotate each week and emulate LJ’s squad.

Best model would be one consistent presenter with a panel of 2 others who rotate every so often. Would be a bit of a free for all if we rotated everyone every time and the quality would fluctuate.

The main presenter needs to be fairly decent, the Ipswich podcast was good quality and achievable to emulate with a bit of work.

I'd be interested in hosting / guesting -- I do podcasts and voice overs in my job so feel like I could add something! :)

Feel free to take charge!

There seems to be some interest, there just needs to be a bit of a driving force to get started.

Once up and running it should be much smoother and easier to sort out.

I have an old PC (circa 2007-8). I could theoretically do stuff on there, but with no internet access the issue is getting the software onto it.

Other than that, only a library PC.

Ok, not ideal.

What you could do is put all the Audacity (or similar) installation files onto a memory stick and install it on the pc without internet access.

With the audio, when you've edited and exported on the PC at home, put the finished product back on the memory stick and upload online via the Library comp.

I am now very hopeful that you do it. Given that you do voice overs for a living, I have high expectations that you sound like the guy from Come Dine With Me.

I’ve got everything to start it up and the knowledge too having previously done something similar on YouTube just maybe not the time due to work. Also I’m not a big of enough character on here to make it successful  :laughcont:

My issue.

I'm not a particularly charismatic person, which isn't ideal.

Personally would be more comfortable as a guest from time to time, but suspect that is the case for many.

Good thinking.

Will continue exploring options and looking at things for now.

Still feel there are better options than myself.

I don't think it matters hugely.

I think the best tone would be where the podcast sounds like three people in a pub, enjoying a drink and chatting about the football club. Relaxed and natural.

Doesn't need to be anything over the top with wacky presenters - just an interesting listen that people can interact with.

I’m thinking of talking to various posters on here and finding out more about them, their affiliation with city and OTIB. Maybe talking about their posting history on here etc. Maybe that could just be a segment of the podcast that could be done separately.

I've got a spare usb audio interface and mic if anyone wants to use it for the podcast.

Happy to run them through getting good levels, setting up a template with compression on the mic to keep the levels even etc

Also could make some title music for it as that's my job.

Sounds like you'd make a good producer for it PF?

Maybe oversee pulling it all together and giving it an identity.

Me and my mate who rarely comes on here are close to organising something. We’d be doing a fortnightly podcast and would like a changing 3rd person each time to join. We’ve done a podcast before and he’s done uni radio so we’re fairly competent I guess

Also,  I’m thinking of alternating it each week as I want to interview city fans from OTIB, about why they use OTIB or why they support city. Perhaps their history with the 2. Maybe meet them in a pub or Skype maybe. It won’t be set up instantly but we’ll try to get things up and running ASAP. If more people want to do an OTIB one ours can be something seperate. I might let my mate host the main podcast so if loads of people want to get involved I could just do the 1 to 1 thing one week and then sit out the next week for the podcast.

I used to be a full-time drivetime radio presenter. Before this career, I was a qualified training officer specialising in interviewing and presentation techniques.

I had the privilege of presenting and producing a video on the day in the life of a football league referee (Bristol's Bob Hamer-if you ever watch it, the Portsmouth referees dressing room was in fact the old Ashton Gate one under the Williams).

I'd be more than happy to offer some free one to one interviewing and presentation skills training (via skype).
