Australia were clearly the better of two poor teams but Syria gave it everything. Feel for them a bit.

And could also be Honduras or the US. 41 minutes ago, El Hombrecito said: Yeah it's the Oceania winner (New Zealand) that has to play a South American team. Confusingly, for the purposes of football, Australia is in Asia.... The way the Argies are playing right now it's a slam dunk for the Kiwis is that. Grem
Just left stadium & very relieved to be through. Dominated midfield but punchless in attack apart from evergreen Cahill. Free kick near end had Ryan beaten but not post. Likely to be Panama or Honduras in play off but prefer Panama. Hopefully still see Wrighty in Russia. Australia used to be in it, but got a bit annoyed at always being the best team in the confederation but getting beat by the fifth best South American team every four years, so applied to be in the Asian confederation. My bad, I should have said Adrian Alston was the Aussie footballer and not Lil! I just checked Wikipedia and it turns out Adrian was born in England but emigrated to Oz when young. So, even though Alston was touted as an Aussie, he wasn't! Perhaps the first Aussie I saw playing then was Paul Agostino! Lil Fuccillo was a good player from Bedford.
