Blatant cheating!

How or why aren’t the match officials clamping down on this?

Wolves v Villa match, Cavaleiro is breaking with a few other Wolves players & Hourihane just blatantly trips him over on the edge of the area, the cross comes in seconds later but Villa clear as Cavaleiro is laid out on the floor & the ref waves play on / advantage but Wolves have lost the ball so there is no advantage!! Play breaks down & the ref calls Hourihane over & books him! No advantage to Wolves as the free kick is awarded inside the Wolves half!

Last night in the Birmingham v Cardiff game & Birmingham have a similar situation to above but it’s Che Adams going through & that dirty shit Aron Gunnarsson kicks him over on the edge of the area but again no free kick is given! The only plus point to this one was that Gunnarsson injured himself!!

It just seems like players are starting to decide against defending or tracking back legally &  just kicking players over & are getting away with it!!

Sorry but I’m just against blatant cheating, no matter how it’s done.

I’m all for fair play, it’s so frustrating when it goes unpunished.  We’ve been on the wrong end too often since promotion.

But there’s another part of me that thinks that if it’s not gonna be fair, then you’ve got to join them. Sad, I know.

I have to disagree Dave there are people who make the rules but fail too enforce them, perhaps they should do their jobs properly or resign.

Yes, I want it to Fair, and Fair play is being let down.  As a Liverpool fan (yeah, yeah, same old replies awaited), I used to cringe every time Martin Skrtrl defended a corner.  His grabbing was embarrassing.  I wanted to see him sent off, penalty given away, by a referee brave enough.

Refs hide behind the ‘I’m not allowed to ref using common-sense’ bolax, yet are hypocrites in terms of holding in the box.

So Dave I agree with you....but until (as you say) they enforce the rules,..........

Any deliberate foul play, including time wasting, professional fouls and shirt pulling should all result in a yellow card. That would soon stamp it out.

Lying on the ground feigning injury should also be a card as soon as they get up and jog away in perfect fitness along with adding on every second wasted.

I know last nights game would have lasted 2 hours, but if that is what it takes.

Cheating on the pitch is on the same level as corruption in the corridors of the game,  imo.

Anyone else watch Portugal v Switzerland in mid week? Ronaldo is talented, but; on the edge of the Swiss box he broke free of the oppos and then tripped over the ball. He immediately appealed for a free kick. Later on he tripped a Swiss player who in falling down, touched the ball when he put his hand out to cushion the fall. Again Ronaldo appealed for a free kick. neither was given, but why didn't the Ref book the cheating player?

A couple of things have changed in recent years, the interpretation of the rules and TV coverage. Firstly, in bygone years, you could get away with murder without any booking. Second, and much more important, there used to be no, or at best, limited TV coverage of matches. Without TV coverage from numerous cameras around the ground many of the “obvious” offences would not be obvious anc would not generate post match comments

Perhaps football could learn a few lessons from the egg chasers. The 4th official could keep time and stop the clock when there's an injury or blatant time wasting. The ref can play the advantage until there is a clear advantage gain but if no advantage  is forth coming bring play back to where the original offence occurred. Finally introduce a TMO who can look all around for foul play that happens outside the view of the ref.

There is of course the other avenue to explore,  improve the standard of referees and assistances so they work as a team or get removed from the list. The trouble with this last option is there won't be enough refs to go around.

Quite right too, he was fouled by that nasty round thing .

He should have been awarded a goal at the very least .

JUSTICE FOR RONALDO

The one that wound me up the most was when one of ours (Bobby I think) and one of theirs went for the same loose ball in front of the Lansdown, both whacked into opposite sides of the ball, the Burton player fell over - free kick to them FFS.

It’s also been a long standing case that if a player stays on his feet (particularly in the penalty area) despite being fouled if he might have a chance of scoring, a penalty is very very rarely given if after the ‘advantage’ is played & a goal isn’t scored but then everyone wonders why players hit the deck at the first sign of possibly being touched.

There is very little consistency from the officials & I think this is the biggest gripe of players, officials & supporters alike.

I sort of agree with you Dave and I have been saying for some time that we sometimes seem too honest.I know that's how its supposed to be but when everyone else is doing it then maybe so should we!

Players and coaches know how to exploit the rules to their advantage hence, knowing that the ref will stop the game in the event of a perceived head injury, it's now sadly common to see players feigning a head injury. It should perhaps be mandated that a player claiming such injury be sent from the field for a compulsory 3 minute head injury assessment by an independent medical specialist?

That'll stop the play acting (although merely cause the coaches to find another way to "manage the game" - I hate that term).

Spot on.

After watching Rotherham under Warnock and Burton on Friday I think something has to be done.

The possibly also exists for some teams like them that having cheated so much, the ref will play on when someone is seriously in danger, like swallowing his tongue for instance.

Sadly that's the reason they do it, they know the ref can't ignore a head injury.
