Last season again?

I really really don't get the logic here.

It's like seing a bit of smoke in a bakery and predicting a second great fire of London just because that's how the first one started.

So far, the only bit of history that has repeated itself is our great start to the season and good cup run. We currently sit smugly in a playoff spot.

Last season we were very unconvincing in our good run, it always had the feel of mostly luck.  Not so this time round, we've earned the points.

We're higher now than we'll finish I expect, but I don't think we'll trouble the bottom half provided we can get the high pressing and quick movement back.

I like the metaphor providing the fire wasn't started by a gas leak.

The last four home matches I have attended are :-

City 0 - Birmingham C 1 (final match last season)

City 0 - Milwall 0

City 0 - Burton Albion 0

City 0 - Leeds 3

That's four consecutive matches I've attended where we have played poorly and have failed to score a single goal. Based on what I have seen I would be happy to avoid relegation this year and I really don't understand where the optimism on this forum comes from.  As the OP says we were in a similar league position this time last season before reality caught up with us.

That’s fine if you have one or two injuries but 4 - all to key players - is a tough ask.

LJ on our squad;

  • They have been good this week,
  • Good few days training,
  • Off on Thursday, to be sharp for Saturday

I think we have better players who could have played but didn`t, for the first hour anyway;

Who were the 4 key players ? I know about Smith, Pisi, the later has been out for a while.

Anyway onto Palace and more changes, no doubt, and again likely on Sat; we need to settle things down a bit and soon before..........

Smith, Pisano, Baker, Paterson - our only experienced specialist right back, our leading assist maker and 2 of the team’s spine.

Obviously there’ll be changes on Tuesday - it’s a cup game, two players from today can’t play anyway and we have a big squad of players who need games.

Well, what you’ve seen is an incredibly unfortunate sample size of games. Obviously the optimism comes from the games you haven’t attended.

Seems you’ve only attended the games we’ve been crap in over a period of 5 months.

Baffling aint it;  we are apparently playing better and have better quality in depth; although injuries to first teamers are cited for our defeat yesterday?

Anyway the coming months will tell if a few fans worries are going to prove them right to be so, or not.

We missed a chance to make further strides forward yesterday in front of a big home crowd...... the future, who knows.....we will see.

Perhaps you should avoid AG. It seems you're a bit of a Jonah.......

Where the optimism comes from is pretty obvious  - results and some pretty good results as well. Derby at AG, Ipswich away to name just two. Add to that wins over two PL clubs one away in the cup and we have a the  feel good factor back.

Yesterday was disappointing for sure but as already stated on here several regular first teasers were out injured. Baker and Paterson in particular were sorely missed. Unfortunately Hegelar was a poor replacement for Baker.

Good news is City are back in action on Tuesday against another PL outfit.

That's all fair enough, the fact remains we should have adequate replacements for injuries; I also seem to remember seeing posts slaughtering Smith and Pato.

I don't know why but I don't like LJ, but I do love my club and really do want it to step up and be noticed.

Missed a chance yesterday hope there are more to come and we take them.

Well, of course you want a squad with strength in depth - and we do.

Having four first team players out though is a tall order even for the strongest squad. Any teams would struggle if their regular team was disrupted so much, regardless which replacements they have.

I worked that out! You should try to like him, he's trying his best for the club and has improved. There's no reason to dislike him.

The similarities between this season and last in terms of games up to the October international break are that the team was relatively settled and playing with a confidence that spilled over from the end of the previous season.

LJ mentioned the international break not being good for him and the players, while the changes yesterday definitely highlighted some of our limitations. And not surprisingly one or 2 players have had a bit of a dip in form, which will happen over a season.

The question is are we more resilient than last season, and can we get back to something close to our form in September? Has LJ learnt from last season's experience?

We need a decent performance against Woy and Palarse, before the more important away games against Sunderland & Fulham. We certainly have to start scoring goals again before Colin arrives with Crapdiff for the Saturday lunchtime fixture.

Definitely not a rerun of last season, stronger team, better footy, better results....just a bad day....

None of the 50/50 balls went out way yesterday.. We will recover.....let's get to 50 points as fast as possible... No relegation battle and a mid table finish would be progress in my opinion...

This is what is known as 'selection bias'
